Ray McGury, Bolingbrook chief of police the last three years, will be the next executive director of the Naperville Park District.
At a special meeting last night, the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners approved a one-year contract for McGury to take over the position left vacant when Daniel Betts resigned two weeks ago.
McGury will begin working for the park district Sept. 15, according to a release issued by the park district.
McGury is a former Naperville police officer who rose through the ranks throughout a 20-year career to second in command.

Jury selection for Drew Peterson’s trial on two felony gun charges will begin December 8, a Will County judge said Thursday.
Peterson, along with his attorneys Joel Brodsky and Andrew Abood, appeared in court Thursday for a status hearing relating to the charges, which allege that Peterson owned an assault rifle that was shorter than the 16 inches required by state law.

Dozens of people from around the country gathered outside of the Bolingbrook Aquatic Center Wednesday as part of a national event to raise awareness for missing persons, including Stacy Peterson.
“We’re keeping awareness and we’re all acting as one family looking for each and everyone’s missing loved ones,” Peterson’s sister Cassandra Cales said. “We will find them and bring them home and find justice for them.”

Almost 10 months to the day that Stacy Peterson disappeared, her friends and members of her family attended a Bolingbrook Village Board meeting last night, where a proclamation was read designating Aug. 27 as Abduction Prevention Day.
The proclamation stated in part “…we will remember all persons still missing across the United States on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, as the (CUE) Center For Missing Persons ‘On The Road To Remember’ 2008 Tour stops in our community to raise awareness of Bolingbrook missing residents Rachel Marie Mellon Skemp and Stacy Ann Peterson.”
Peterson, wife of former Bolingbrook Police Sergeant Drew Peterson, has been missing since Oct. 28, 2007.
Mellon Skemp has been missing since Jan. 31, 1996, when she disappeared from her Bolingbrook home at the age of 13.
