Decomposed body found on the banks of the Des Plaines River

Could these be the remains of Lisa Stebic or Stacy Peterson?

This is what we know so far:

  • The body is female
  • Lower half of the body only
  • Clad only in panties
  • The Stacy Peterson water searchers say the body was found south of where they had previously seen a sonar image of a body in the water
  • Apparently, the body moved to the location where it been discovered.
  • Cales family has been contacted by ISP
  • Task forces that were working on both Stacy Peterson and Lisa Stebic cases are on the scene.
  • Drew Peterson is being monitored as this news is breaking. He can watch TV but cannot listen to radio
  • Remains reported found in some sort of tub
  • Autopsy to take place tomorrow morning
  • Joel Brodsky reportedly said drew is “unconcerned” about the remains being found

We will update as we learn more.

  1. OK, rescue, you are right. I must control my fantasy ;).
They say the body was found by workers who notified the police, so they were not led there by any tip or so.

  2. What an incredible set of circumstances if this were to be exactly what it appears to be (!!)

  3. Prayers out to the family and friends to whomever this poor woman is.

I wonder…How long before we know who it is ?

Days, weeks ? Any ideas anyone ?? TIA

  4. How ironic this body is found today, a day before Peterson hearing…..

Ia it possible to sure information here on new threads have been approved by the Cales family. Wouldn’t want to give out too much.

  5. I hope and pray that this is Stacy or Lisa. If not, though, hopefully it will help to bring answers to someone’s family.

According to the manager of Mugzy’s Bar, in Big Basin Marina off the Des Plaines River, the body was discovered about 3 p.m. by the Living Lands and Waters clean-up crew, which the bar had hired to clean part of the river.

“We saw the trooper flying into the parking lot, and the Living Lands and Waters boat was coming down the river and the trooper jumped in their boat,” said Ben, who asked that his last name not be used.

Ben said the crew, which is based out of Moline, came about four days ago and he briefed them that searchers had been sifting through the waters, apparently looking for Stacy Peterson’s body.

“I told them that we had a flood last September, it was the worst flood ever, it was knee-deep in the parking lot. I told them if you’re going to find anything, it’s probably going to be on shore, because of the flood,” he said. “They’d be a big help and get some closure to this case if they came across something. I knew it was a long shot.”

  7. Hey Rescue, Facs, Noway, and all, just read this shocking news, and something came to mind about a bar Drew owned years ago near a marina a good distance away from Bolingbrook. It was one he sold early on during his marriage to Kathleen. Not sure if you two remember anything about it or not, and I only vaguely do. I just remember that it was secluded and close to a river or lake. Do either of you know if Big Basin Marina is where it was? Probably isn’t, but I couldn’t help but wonder about it. As horrible as this discovery must have been for whoever stumbled upon it, I truly hope it will finally bring closure for some poor family.

Have missed you guys, but I’ve tired to stop by as often as I could to keep up with the case. You’re both doing a great job with the blog, and thanks for keeping it going when Danya had to give it up.

  8. It’s fine, I have plenty o’ coffee, they updated it AGAIN at 6:53 PM to add:

The body was not in the water, but was found in the brush on the shore, according to a state police source. Other bodies had been found in the area in the past, the source said, including the remains of the Vaughn family.

    Body found in Channahon
    By Heidi Terry-Litchfield – hlitchfield@morrisdailyherald.com

CHANNAHON – Illinois State Police confirm human remains were found in the Des Plaines River in Channahon.

At about 4:00 p.m. state police were alerted to something floating in the Des Plaines River about three tenths of a mile south of Big Basin,” said Channahon Police Chief Joe Pena.

Pena had not been to the scene at the time of the Morris Daily Herald contact.

Sgt. Burek with the Illinois State Police said they could confirm the remains were human but they were not speculating anything beyond that.

He said at this time they couldn’t confirm whether the remains were male or female.

  10. I missed you all too Facs. Have had a lot going on this year, and just didn’t have as much time to b involved as I used to. Rescue and I have been emailing some, and I’m just so thankful the blog is still here better than ever, especially now!

I believe the bar you are thinking about was called Suds and was around Aurora or Yorkville which is north west of Channahon.

  12. HDI, guess we’ll have 20 different accounts of this discovery before that actual facts are reported correctly.

  13. Hey Whitey, it wasn’t that one. It actually had a name that had Hideout in it too I think, and that’s what made me wonder about this location. I knew about Suds, but thanks for your help. :D

  14. The body was not in the water, but was found in the brush on the shore, according to a state police source. Other bodies had been found in the area in the past, the source said, including the remains of the Vaughn family.

Woman’s body found by river near Channahon

“I found out through a friend. We’re just hopeful, I’m so hopeful and I’m ecstatic,” said Stacy Peterson’s aunt, Candace Aikin, who lives near Los Angeles. “I’m hoping that it is Stacy. Our family really wants closure. Then we’ll at least know what happened. We have so many unanswered questions and no closure is really hard.”

  16. White, it was Hideout or Hangout. Something like that. Best I can remember, he sold it because it wasn’t very profitable, but the location of it, due to the seclusion and the water around it, was of interest to ISP and the searchers when Stacy first went missing. Just wish I could find something on it, or remember the name and location, but it may not even be related to this new discovery whatsoever.

  17. JAH,

I’d have to look but I want to say there is still an unsolved case of a bike rider who was found murdered which is fairly recent (last 2-3 years) in or near the same area.

  18. Cfs, I believe it was called Leo’s Hideaway, but I do not recall that Drew ever owned it. The only bar that I recall him owning was Suds in Montgomery.

  19. Noway…..my favorite comedic blogger! I don’t think it was Leo’s, but I’m not postive because I can’t remember the name, but that doesn’t “hit” me. Where was Leo’s? I remember that name, but was it away from BB, secluded, and on the water?

  20. There is a Leo’s Bar in Romeoville on Romeo. There had been reports that Peterson and friends used to hang out there.

  21. Myabelle, you may be right in that he didn’t own it, but for some reason I think I remember he was a part owner in, and sold out because he wasn’t making any money on it, or something to that effect. It’s just been so long ago, and I may be totally off course, but I felt sure somebody here would know something about it. I’ve been out of the loop for a long time, but I’m sure if I look hard enough I can find something to either dispute or substantiate whatever it is “I think I remember”, lol. At any rate, it really isn’t even important if this isn’t Stacy.

  22. It’s long but not sure the link will work.

Texas group takes lead in search for Peterson
By Erika Slife and Matthew Walberg

    Tribune staff reporters

    1:17 PM CST, November 6, 2007

One team of about 15 people traipsed through thick brush behind Leo’s Bar and Grill, on East Romeo Road just west of the Des Plaines River in Romeoville.

The team covered about two square miles, finding little more than impromptu campsites and empty beer cans. Volunteers said they were instructed by EquuSearch to note anything of interest and report back to Miller and other leaders.

  23. Someone posted this wish on whereisstacy, and I second the sentiment: I pray if we can’t have Stacy alive, that this body is Stacy.

  24. Regardless of whose remains have been found, I hope they are able to make an identification, and fast.

Some family is about to get much deserved closure on the fate of a missing loved one.

RIP whomever it is and I hope your killer is brought to justice.

  25. cfs, Mugz Hideout was the bar that supported one of the fundraisers. Maybe that’s the Hideout that you are thinking of?

  26. Update from Joliet Herald..

DNA needed to identify woman’s body

A barge crew discovered the remains of a female Wednesday afternoon in the Des Plaines River prompting speculation that it could be one of two missing Will County women, Stacy Peterson or Lisa Stebic. A source said the remains looked like that of a smallish female wearing underwear, but that DNA testing likely would be required for a positive ID

  28. Noway, I’m so sorry. I wish I could remember more, and I’m searching back to see what I can find. May have it all confused, since it’s been so long. Could be any of the above at this point, but thanks for your help.

State police and Braidwood canine units were called to the scene. Channahon and Illinois conservation police were also assisting. State police said two investigators were in charge of the scene. A lead investigator for state police rode out and returned around 4 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., Will County Coroner Patrick K. O’Neil rode out to examine the body.

Fifteen minutes later, the Channahon Fire Department brought a boat to the landing as news helicopters circled overhead.

“There are human remains, but that is all that is known right now,” police said.

A forensic team was called in to search the area at 5 p.m. and police said they might need lighting to continue the investigation as the sun went down.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I’m thinking creatures of habit and areas they favor.

    or total coincidence (!!)

  31. Hernando’s Hideaway? Olé. Which was the bar where Drew and Stephen and I think SC and MR were seen having a drink just after Stacy disappeared. It wasn’t one of his usual haunts we read about.

  32. That was Leo’s, Bucket. And Stella’s was where Drew was seen drunk (LOL, maybe the FIRST time; Tailgaters was where the bar fight was … and the list of bars goes on.

But Mugzy’s Hideout is right there where they are, that’s why I thought cfs might be thinking “Hideout” …

  33. There was talk of another secluded bar and you could only get there by boat, but I don’t recall Drew owned it at any stage.

  34. “She may show herself or go down deeper like her Mom did”

He also asked her to “show her head” and once talked about “popping her head up”

What’s all this talk about her head, is that how you describe someone who ran away ??

  35. I wonder…How long before we find out it is
SP ? I know I am speculating, but I just have this
really strong feeling it’s HER. So sad.

  36. 1wonderwoman,

I’m hoping very soon. Recall reading both Lisa and Stacy had tattos. Guess it would depend how decomposed the body is.

  37. Sorry, Mucha was at Penny Road Pub. It was said he was at Leo’s and that’s what his comment is in regard to.

  38. Drew also mentioned something “if Stacy’s body ever be found “down the road”

“down the road” usually means sometime in the future, but this could also be Drew-speak, so is this area where the body is located considered close enough to be “down the road” ??

  39. Whitesox, I don’t think you could get tattoo information from skeletal remains. Do tattoos damage tissue underneath the skin?

  40. Bucket – Lisa has two children, boy and a girl. I think she is 5’2″ in height.

Both women have tattoos, Stacy has breast implants.

I believe, if not sooner, an ID is 3 days away.

  41. I don’t think so, unless you did it really hard on a prominent bone, I guess. LOL Fancy a home experiment? LOL.

I asked about the number of children because if Lisa has more than two, it may be posible to distinguish between the two that way. There are small changes on the pelvic bones for each pregnancy.

  42. Rescue I just had a horrible thought. Breast implants survive decomposition. In other words, if it were Stacy, no matter how ‘far gone’ she was, the breast plants would remain.

Is it possible DP, being aware of that fact, did something with her top half???

Gruesome and morbid I know. It’s so sad!

  45. Aussie – I guess I would have to defer to the experts as to how the implants would be affected by deterioration/body decomposition, but I would think that, to the expert, something would be distinguishable at first glance. But, I don’t know — again, that’s for the experts.

  46. JAH and Noway and everyone else, I’ve been searching and thinking, but have decided it really isn’t worth the effort any longer. I’m so sorry I even mentioned it without having total recall, but thanks so much for all the helpful comments. As I wrote upthread, it doesn’t really matter anyway if this is not Stacy’s body, and if it is…the important thing is that she is finally found.

DNA Needed To Identify Body In Des Plaines RiverCHANNAHON TOWNSHIP (STNG) ― A body was found in the Des Plaines River May 20, 2009.
    CBS

A barge crew discovered female human remains Wednesday afternoon in the Des Plaines River, prompting speculation that Stacy Peterson or Lisa Stebic may have been found.

A witness at the scene said the body was taken from the scene about 7:50 p.m. after police and Will County coroners had investigated the body. The body weighed no more than 30 pounds and appeared to have been mainly bones, according to the witness

  48. Thanks guys. Thanks for the newsflash, Whitey. DNA ID on a reasonable sample doesn’t take long if it turns out to be someone whose profile you know you’re looking for. God bless whoever it is.

Stacy also had a tummy tuck ( a very expensive one according to Drews fountain of intimate and public information on his wife)

Other than the breast implants and tummy tuck she also had her teeth straightened (braces),and lasik surgery, which would also be of significance in identification and subsequent autopsy.

If Lisa Stebic had anything done I don’t know, at least her husband didn’t feel the need to tell the whole world (!!)

  51. Rewind:

Craig Wall says “sources said” remains were found “possibly in a tub of some sort.”

  52. I heard something about a “tub” also. Then, I thought, because I wasn’t listening that attentively, that maybe he said “tug” in reference to one of the vessels used to get back and forth to the shore.

  53. I, too, forgot about implants and serial numbers, which makes me even more suspicious that DP would not want Stacy’s top half to be found.

That said, surely if he is able to make sure of that, he would make sure none of her was found.

God, all this speculation. I’m just hanging on edge waiting to hear for sure.

I feel really emotional about all of this, yet I never knew Stacy or Lisa Stebic, or anybody even associated with them.

I was walking to lift at work just before and suddenly had moment where I felt like I could feel the fear and confusion and grief both women’s children must be feeling and just felt so sad for everybody affected.

  54. JAH said: If Lisa Stebic had anything done I don’t know, at least her husband didn’t feel the need to tell the whole world (!!)

    ======================================================

And therein lies just one example of DPs stupidity as opposed to Craig Stebic (if indeed Craig Stebic is the reason Lisa is missing).

The whole ‘look at meeeee’ syndrome will bite him in the bum. I still feel sick when I think of the elation he demonstrated with that perp walk two weeks ago!

  55. With the laughing, taunting and goading that he’s done, he’s convinced himself he committed the perfect crimes !!

and that’s why he is sitting in jail right now, because at least one crime (so far) wasn’t perfect !!

  57. I agree with you, Facs. Before I would begin to speculate what happened to the top portion of this woman, I would certainly have to think that eighteen months of decomposition, deterioration, constant movement and banging, would have an extreme effect on the body. Couldn’t that just be a logical explanation for the remains not being intact or complete?

  58. The story at the top says DP can watch TV but can’t listen to radio. Is there any particular reason why?

Does anybody else hear that??……..It’s the sound of silence from the nightmare legal team and PR machine.

  59. facs,

Also the barge traffic will do alot of damage as well.

And not to get even more grotesque, heard that once a body is dumped into a river, it can go down to the bottom and raise back to the surface at least once or twice as the gases in body release.

  60. I don’t know that the remains were found in a tub. That was just the reporter repeating something someone might have told him, although the rumors and theories are running rampant right now.

  61. Maybe there is another tub. Before we heard about the tub, I was thinking maybe she was weighted down like Lacy Peterson.

IIRC, Cassandra told police very early on that DP had scuba diving weights in his garage. Said weights are believed to be on the missing list! Maybe Stacy took them to the beach in Thailand?!

  64. I just re-read what I wrote in response to rescue above and need to clarify:

  66. Very good point idahotrix. When I worked for Police Media we used to release all sorts of false info to the press to cage rattle a suspect. Usually it was after a listening device was in place to garner their reaction.

In this case, DP is in a fishbowl so they won’t miss his reaction, that’s for sure.

Oh how I would love to hear from an insider just how he is reacting to this news!

  67. When there is a vacuum in relation to information being released, the media fills that vacuum – with speculation, rumour, innuendo and gossip.

    Hello Nat,

I don’t know about the Media, I’m pretty good at it myself – LOL !

  68. I heard that they only found, at this time, a “torso and legs” according to the news on fox; so, breast implants and tatoos, tummy-tucks, etc., would be very irrelevant. I just think it’s extremely an act of faith that the body would be discovered while Drew is in jail. I just can’t believe this is finally happening.

  69. We’re still waiting for Joel Brodsky to come forward and guarantee us this is not Stacy’s body – LOL !

  70. Sureyouwill, it’s hard to believe it’s happening because it’s been so long coming(a long time to us, anyway!)

As this case dragged on, I had doubts Stacy would ever be found.

However, I also believed DP would never be arrested because he seemed to be getting away with doing whatever he wanted. And now look where he is: in a cage where he belongs.

    Hello Nat,

I don’t know about the Media, I’m pretty good at it myself – LOL !

    ======================================================

Part of the reason I became a journalist was my inherent nosiness. Part of the reason I moved out of it and moved into the media unit of my state police was my disgust at the reporting of rumour, innuendo and gossip as fact. It’s OK for us; we are bloggers. It’s not OK for the media. When it’s rumour and gosssip, they should say so.

  72. It’s just soooo ironic that he’s in jail and being all cocky that he will be getting out on the “next business day” according to Joel. Wow! I can’t even imagine what is going through Cass’s head right now! I too though that Drew would get away “with murder.” How the pieces all fell into play once Fox got that mysterious envelope delivered to them and how the boats automatically went out the following day — where, according to the news they saw a sonogram of “a body” in the water.

  73. LOL, what else is he going to say…’I spoke to my client and, frankly, he is shitting bricks, because he knows there is a good chance it’s Stacy’.

  74. I think his lack of concern is also very telling. Joel’s not guaranteeing us that it is not Stacy either. JMO – No more white noise? WOW

  75. I agree with a previous poster also on Drew’s perpetual inuendos on Stacy “poping up” and so forth. I can’t wait for feedback from Joel!!!!! If only to be a fly on the wall!!!!

  76. Yes, it could very well be Lisa Stebic as well; the news made a point of saying that “Plainfield” investigators have been called to the scene.

  77. Sadly, that’s right. It could be Lisa Stebic. If so, the silver lining will be that her family will finally have closure. I can’t even imagine my mother missing and never finding out how/why/where.

  78. If this turns out to be Stacy I don’t think any “favorable Judge” can help him now and Joel may actually have to go back to law school and learn how to become a proper Defense Lawyer (!)

  79. At the risk of sounding grotesque, I can’t help but wonder if the body was weighted down around the midsection and decomp caused it to separate or if it was cut in half. I apologize if anyone is offended, but I am just curious. It really doesn’t make sense to hide the top and let the bottom be found (Stacy) considering she supposedly ran off.

  80. Well, tomorrow is Brodsky and Abood’s day to shine again, with their fair warning of yet another hotshot press conference, per Sell-it’s announcement. Another day of Bozo’s Circus.

  81. mom2babies, unfortunately it’s not really possible to speculate much without being morbid.

There are so many possibilities as to what could have happened. I am waiting with bated breath for the answers that will surely be coming fairly quickly.

Here in Oz, a little girl was missing and the police found her the next day, dead :-(.

The platic bag with her body was sent for fingerprinting, and while there was a huge backlog, they put a priority rush on it and got the results the next day. A run-of-the mill fingerprint search would have taken weeks or months.

Lets hope due to the circumstances, they put a rush on this.

  82. we can only wonder what or any kind of emotion he showed upon hearing the news, he knows they are watching, but think about this, even if he hated the woman and she really ran off, he should show emotion of { thats what she gets } even a bad emotion, simple frown to express that its too bad for whoever it is on that river bank. so if he is a blank canvas it tells me he is really working on his unconcerned act too much for the camera.

  83. When I heard about this earlier, I felt very conflicted. I want this to be Stacy or Lisa for the sake of closure for the families, and I don’t want this to be Stacy or Lisa for the sake of the families. I cannot imagine what they all have been going through. This is all so very sad!

  84. Mom, somebody on another forum expressed it perfectly: if we can’t have Stacy (or Lisa) alive, at least let it be her so we know where she is.

  85. I just re-read the CBS story and it makes me mad that DP is ‘unconcerned’.

Even if he believes it’s not Stacy, wouldn’t a normal human being feel some sort of emotion about a small female’s remains being found? I mean, somebody out there has lost a mother/daughter/sister/aunt/cousin!!!!

The news of ANY body being found in such terrible circumstances warrants even a little concern.

Oh well, fits his whole ‘me me me’ persona.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If this is Stacy, he (Drew) would not have wanted ANY part to be found, whether that is the top or bottom or whole body (!)

It is just that the perfect murder doesn’t always turn out to be perfect (!!)

  87. I’m surprised the nightmare team are holding another press conference after tomorrow’s hearing.

I’d have thought Monday’s experience would have taught them a lesson.

Then again…look at who we are dealing with!

  88. Yesterday on Fox they had a psycologist talk about “what’s in drew’s head” and said although they haven’t personally analyzed him, they said he is a narcicst who has a self-centered personality and cannot show empathy. That would explain the feeling of being “unconcerned” to a TEE! Joel is such an A hole!

That’s why he is a Sociopath.

They don’t have any emotions of regret, empathy, remorse etc

If anything he’d probably be laughing that she is found in such decomposed and obliterated state.

  90. One of the ways that FBI profilers learn about nutcases is to actually study them. A lot of their time is spent conducting interviews in prisons.

I hope somebody studies DP one day when he is locked up. It could teach the experts a whole lot more than they already know in the field of narcissism/psychopathy.

  91. and Joel Brodsky can’t advise him what to say or display appropriate behavior as he is as narcissistic as Drew himself – LOL !!

  92. Which could be why boobsky hasn’t reigned in his client. He can’t tell him his behaviour is inappropriate, because to his way of thingking, there is nothing wrong with it!

    May 20, 2009

    By JOE HOSEY jhosey@scn1.com
CHANNAHON TOWNSHIP — A cleanup crew discovered female human remains on the shore of the Des Plaines River on Wednesday afternoon, prompting speculation that Stacy Peterson or Lisa Stebic may have been found.

Witnesses said it was around 2 p.m. that the crew discovered the remains — not an intact body — while walking near the south shore after spending the past four days clearing logs and debris.

A source said the remains looked like that of a smallish female wearing underwear, but that DNA testing likely would be required for a positive ID.

An autopsy will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

State police have taken over the investigation and confirmed remains were found, but would not release any other information Wednesday evening.

State police Master Sgt. Thomas Burek addressed the media around 8:30 p.m., saying only that unidentified human remains were found.

As expected, also at the scene were Channahon and conservation police, both of whom have jurisdiction in the area, and representatives from the state’s attorney’s office and the coroner’s office. Braidwood police brought their canine units. But Plainfield police, who have no jurisdiction there, were called in, too.

Plainfield police have been working on Stebic’s disappearance since the Plainfield mom was last scene in 2007. Similarly, state police took over the investigation of Stacy Peterson, the missing Bolingbrook woman, because her husband, Drew Peterson, was a police officer.

But Burek wouldn’t say link the appearance of state and Plainfield police to the Stebic or Peterson cases Wednesday.

“We’re not attempting to associate with any particular investigation. It would be premature to do that,” Burek said.

    Boating to scene

The cleanup crew made their grisly find approximately three-quarters of a mile west of the Interstate 55 bridge, near the Big Basin Marina.

The shore area is only accessible by boat, so investigators spent time shuttling down the river from the boat launch at the marina on the river’s north side.

Will County Coroner Patrick K. O’Neil rode out to examine the body. Fifteen minutes later, the Channahon Fire Department brought a boat to the landing as news helicopters circled overhead. A forensic team was called in to search the area at 5 p.m. and police said they might need lighting to continue the investigation as the sun went down.

    Peterson’s family called

Relatives of missing Bolingbrook mother Stacy Peterson said they’ve been contacted by state police, who told them a woman’s body has been found in the river near Channahon, though the remains have not been identified.

“We don’t know who it is,” said Pam Bosco, a spokeswoman for Stacy Peterson’s family. “We’re just being patient right now. We’re waiting.”

She believes there won’t be any definitive word Wednesday about the identity of the body.

And Bosco said relatives realize the remains could be those of another woman, possibly missing Plainfield resident Lisa Stebic or someone else.

Bosco said Stacy Peterson’s family members just hope the remains can be identified so a family somewhere can learn the fate of a missing loved one.

“We just hope they can identify who it is,” Bosco said.

    To the morgue

At 7:50 p.m., a skiff carrying detectives and a deputy coroner landed at the marina. A coroner’s van backed up to the skiff. A deputy coroner and investigator carried a white body bag from the skiff and loaded it in the van. The drooping ends of the body bag showed that the remains were only about two feet long.

The river was reopened to barge traffic, and the coroner’s van left en route to the morgue, where an autopsy will be conducted Thursday morning.

Herald News reporter Brian Stanley and Sun-Times News Group reporter Dan Rozak contributed to this story.

  95. It never fails – whenever something is going on I have something to do.

Anyway – Dr. Baden was on AM 780 around 6pm CS tonight with Amy Jacobson and whoever’s show is on at that time. Dr. Baden said that due to the nature of rivers that it is possible for remains to break apart. He said that they can tell if there are tool marks on the bones that would indicate if that was done. I believe he had said you could tell if the marks were post-mortem or while the person was still alive.

He also said that May is the month that most bodies that have been submersed for about 2 years start to float up to the top due to the bacteria (or something like that) that occurs during decomposition which makes them float.

Regarding the breast implants it could be very possible that as the body decomposed they were released. In that river they could get stuck in rocks or branches and pop leaving only the outer covering that would look like garbage.

  96. Hey folks. Just a note about “disappearing” posts.

If you paste a story and/or link only to find later that it is gone or that your posts says “awaiting moderation” it’s because that particular story was already posted on the blog.

    It’s nothing personal!

    Thanks!

  97. I certainly hope that ISP can put a “rush” on DNA testing. I doubt that they could have the testing done by tomorrow afternoon (when Drew is due back in court), but it sure would be nice to have the results before the weekend.

  98. Here is a picture of what the body bag looked like as the remains were removed from the scene. I didn’t want to post it up top since it could be disturbing to some:

  99. Interesting comment by Joel. Is he just stupid or what?? I mean everyone knows the saying is “if I had a dollar” or “if I had a nickel” for every yada, yada, yada. If you need $10K for each one that means it doesn’t happen very often at all! Duh!!

“I wish I had $10,000 for every time they pulled a body out of a river in the Chicago area,” Brodsky said. “People will assume what they want to assume.”

    Source: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-body-search-21may21,0,1221131.story

  100. Dang Facs. That picture really hits home. No person deserves to have to be found this way. I hope they find out who this person is very quickly so their families will have closure on the question of where their loved one is.

  101. I just had a look at the video of the myfoxchicago website. Craig Wall definitely said the remains were legs and a torso!

  102. What an insensitive boob. Honestly. How about making no statement at all, or something kind to give the impression of concern for the families of whoever the woman belongs to.

No wonder we think he’s an idiot we have no use for.

  103. Wow, TAI, thanks for posting that.

What a cold-hearted thing for him to say.

It does sound, however, like he is REALLY trying to downplay it, though, doesn’t it?

  104. I’m confused because there were statements that “bones” were found, not an intact skeleton. But from that picture, it does look like the shape of a skeleton. More so than what I would have expected after 18-24 months.

  105. If this does turn out to be Stacy, I almost feel dread wondering what his public response will be to the news.

They BOTH make me sick to my stomach.

  106. You have a really good point about how dumb that was to say, TAI. Not only was it callous but the high value means that if they pulled even 5 people out of the river in a year, he wouldn’t be bad off.

  107. I hope somebody studies DP one day when he is locked up. It could teach the experts a whole lot more than they already know in the field of narcissism/psychopathy.
    ———————-

Well I’m no expert beyond psych major in college & the misfortune of living with a narcissist, but DP & JB both are pretty textbook.

Stacy’s & Lisa’s (or whoever this may be) loved ones are in my prayers. Especially Cass. Can you imagine having your mom & sister both missing?

From DP’s previous statements, I have always suspected he had something to do with Ms. Cales’ disappearance & that he put Stacy close to her.

Is this location anywhere near Dresden Lock?

  108. The “unconcerned” comment was unbelievable. Don’t either of the two of these doofuses have at least an ounce of decency between them??

If I were the defense counsel, I’d release a statement from my client stating that we were saddened to hear that someone had lost their life and pray for the family of the victim but that my client continues to maintain their innocence of bringing any harm to Stacy or Kathleen.

  109. Dresden lock? I don’t know, but if this body was tossed into the Canal, the constant movement from the current and barges would have continued to carry the body to the location where it has now been discovered, surfacing after all these months. I believe it would have moved south from where it could have originated.

  110. It’s truly as if they have poisoned each other. Where is their PR guy in all this? If ever there was a time to work up some official, tasteful statements, I think this would be it.

  111. Tink1, I think that Dresden Locks is on the Illinois River. I am not local, though, so I could be wrong.

  112. Tink1 I thought it had already been established quite early on that Stacy’s mum disappeared a while before she even met drew.

As for Sandra Belanger, I didn’t know she charged people $200 for what she does?!

While I believe some people in the world have some psychic ability, I don’t believe those who charge ridiculous amounts of money have any ability other than that of being able to con vulnerable people.

  113. - The location IS near Dresden.

    – Ben Bradley from ABC states this:
“Dental records and DNA will also be tested.”

    Source: http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=6823493

    – Other pictures show quite a bit of bagged material on shore.

Lot of equipment and key people on scene for it to *NOT* to be a high profile missing person, in my opinion.

Also of note, there is the blue barrel shown in the ABC video along with an interview with the area resident, Michelle Williams who found it and brought it to the attention of LE.

  114. song4sky,

I got about the same reception when I brought up Sandra here at the end of April, when things did indeed start happening. (And the information is completely free by the way.)

I find Sandra’s information intriguing too & that’s why I asked about Dresden, before I saw your post. But I don’t think it is a welcome subject here. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.

  115. HDI, I think the media made it high-profile. LE is a little more reluctant (and wisely so IMO).

“We’re not identifying whether or not it’s male or female. It would be very premature to do that nor are we making an attempt to associate with any current investigation. It would be very premature,” said Master Sgt. Tom Burek, Illinois State Police.

  116. Holy shit! That abclocal link Tink just posted says the remains were in a BLUE BARREL, and that the woman who found them, a local woman called Michelle Williams, took a picture of the blue barrell, as did the media!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  117. If they are also doing dental comparisons, that means that they found a skull.

That is the first I have seen that being mentioned.

I hope this reporter was not going on just speculation, but on solid knowledge.

If they have dentals, we could have an ID by tomorrow.

  118. Oops, I should read before hitting the submit button. It was hedidit that posted the abc link, and if I finished reading the post before going to the link, I would have seen hedidit had already mentioned the blue barrel.

I’m just getting too excited here. Better get a cup of tea and do some work. (I have spent more time blogging today than working. I hope my boss hasn’t noticed).

  119. I did see that segment also about the blue container on the 10:00 news. The trouble is, I was switching back and forth, and I couldn’t remember which station it was.

    Now, that’s clear.

  120. Tink, song4sky, I am not a moderator here, but I personally have no issue with you talking about Sandra Belanger. Just because I am a skeptic doesn’t mean anything. We are all entitled to our opinions and I don’t think mine is any more important than yours.

  121. Let’s leave the psychic discussion out of things, folks.

It tends to polarize people along lines of what they believe and as this is not a “faith-based” blog, we kindly ask you take discussion of pyschics and their work to the forums set up to handle those discussions.

    Thanks for your understanding.

  122. The barrel was first spotted on Sunday and then again on Monday.

I wonder how that fits in with Baden’s comment

… May is the month that most bodies that have been submersed for about 2 years start to float up to the top due to the bacteria (or something like that) that occurs during decomposition which makes them float.

I’m not sure whether a body in a barrel in water would do this or if he is referring to a body in water.

  123. aussie, No one can know for certain that DP didn’t meet Stacy back then. (If you meant that Cass stated Stacy & Drew hadn’t met yet.) Even if he hadn’t met Stacy, that in no way means he couldn’t have possibly had something to do with her mom’s disappearance. Kids rarely know all the facts about their parents’ lives. they usually know what the parents let them know, sometimes more. If we are supposed to rely on children’s perception of things, we’d have to take DP’s son as an alibi for Kathleen’s murder. I’m just saying it’s a possiblity and hopefully time will tell.

Sandra didn’t charge me any money to read her info, she posted it for free. I don’t know what that $200 is about. I don’t think she charges at all, but I could be mistaken. Her info was right in the Lacy Peterson case though, that’s what got my attention.

I got the impression that this was the reporter talking about what typically took place while trying to identify a body.

  125. TAI – not sure about that area, but that has been where the searchers have been concentrating for quite some time. In fact, some of the people I’ve spoken to were in that area just two weeks ago, on shore. As a matter of fact, even the bar owner had said that it was a good possibility, if the body were to surface, that it could be in that very section. He turned out to be eerily right.

  126. The more we are learning about the discovery, the more I believe it’s Stacy.

If it is, and the blue barrel part is actually correct, what is that going to do to boobsky and company’s previous mud-slinging attempts to portray Tom Morphey as a lunatic who made the story up?? Hmmmm.

hmmmmm, yes, if they only found the lower part of a body then there are no teeth !

So which part did they find – upper body, lower body, whole body, just bones, inside or out of a barrel, or the barrel seperate.

So many questions and no friggin’ answers – LOL !!

  128. New article about John Paul Carrol

Peterson attorney no stranger to controversy
Changes made after state says lawyer bankrupted fund for indigent defendants
By Christy Gutowski | Daily Herald StaffContact writer

The newest member of the Drew Peterson defense team is no stranger to controversy.

In fact, state officials once accused Naperville attorney John Paul Carroll of single-handedly bankrupting a fund for indigent defendants facing possible death sentences, later sparking oversight reforms.

    (snip)

  129. Noway – I think he was referring to bodies in water. I’m not sure if the bacteria was stuff that is in the water in the spring or if it was something within the body itself. It was a very short interview with not enough details. :)

  130. Thanks, noway. That was my impression, too–that it was the reporter saying what would normally be done. I have not seen anywhere that it was reported that a skull was found.

That said, they have been working there all afternoon/evening/night, and it is quite possible that they have found more remains, as well as other evidence.

I guess we will find out more tomorrow.

Although, I want the answers NOW.

  131. Re John Paul Carrol; I’m not surprised about anything I learn about anybody who willingly takes sides with drew. I’m sure its a criteria to dealing with him.

  132. Noway – I remember that – Dr. Baden indicating that the body would come up the second Spring. I thought it was the first Spring, but that was an incorrect assumption. So, this would appear to be the time frame of a body surfacing.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Exactly, especially now we are finding out Christina also knew Drew since age 15.

How many more young girls did Drew befriend via their parents or behind their parents back ?????

  134. I think the news articles are all fact mixed with a lot of rumor right now. FoxChicago says that the body was found in a container and ABC7 says that a blue barrel was found a mile downstream. Both can’t be related. Or can they?? Could there have been two containers but Tom only helped with one? IDK – I’m not ready to decide anything mentally yet because I know these news stations throw a lot of wrong information out there.

  135. JAH, it was the lower torso and legs that were found. I think mention of dental records was based on forensics research someone at the station did and not specific to these remains.

  136. “He is the poster boy for capital litigation abuse,” said Kati Phillips, a spokeswoman for Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, whose office oversees the capital litigation fund.

Philips said Carroll’s billing directly led to reforms that require judges to preapprove defense attorneys’ hourly rates and budgets before they may tap into the state fund.

    Ouch!

  137. Baden did say something that made me realize that things aren’t always as they seem.

He said that they could have found woman’s clothing with the remains (which in this case we have heard may be women’s underwear). He said that could lead the investigators to believe it was a woman and most of the time they would be right but that it is up to the forensic pathologists at the cornoner’s office to determine that scientifically.

Does Will County have a real coroner/medical examiner yet??

  138. *CAREFUL clicking on a Google alert for this news story called Chicago Ray’s Blog Report. It opens up several IE pages without warning and locks up your PC.

  139. Good morning!

I wonder what the decision of the judge will be today in the light of the discovery.

Blue barrel and plastic foil sticking from it, Tom Morphey, phone pings, and this perfectly clean kitchen the day after. Too many things add up.
I am still in shock about what Drew possibly did to Stacy.

  140. Doesn’t this kind of complicate things a little more regarding the bond issue? I mean, if the identification of the woman’s body is still not known tomorrow, but it’s a good possibility it could be Stacy, wouldn’t it just be a bit unsettling to have Peterson bond out, only to then find out this is, in fact, Stacy?

Also, BTW, there is to be more information revealed tomorrow regarding Kathleen’s case that hasn’t been made public before.

Absolutely, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I love reading all the different points of view here. I didn’t mean to “sound” sour in any way. I’m sorry if that’s how it came off.

This is so nerve-racking, the waiting for ID. It’s amazing how the universe is bringing all the pieces of the puzzle together. And the night before the bond reduction show. I know we don’t know if it’s Stacy yet, but it sure seems so with the “barrel”. A little too coincidental.

    **************

Where/when will it be revealed?? At the hearing? Before?

This is starting to look like the plot of a really complicated crime novel.

I’m going to have to get up in the middle of the night to check it all out to satisfy my curiousity!!!

  144. At the hearing, aussie. It’s my understanding that the State will reveal more information to justify asking for a high bond. A local legal analyst mentioned this, and I think it was Channel 7 news that also brought it up. Information that hasn’t yet been revealed in public.

  145. Doesn’t this kind of complicate things a little more regarding the bond issue? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Worse case scenario, if Drew gets out, they’ll have to re-arrest him if this turns out to be Stacy’s body, but
I can’t see any Judge dropping a 20 million dollar Bond to an almost negligible amount on the type of serious charges Drew is sitting in the slammer for, so Drew would most likely still have to come up with a hefty bond for a few days freedom (!!).

  146. Thanks rescue. I can’t wait to hear what else they have. He must be totally pooing his pants about now.

  147. Hello: I don’t ever post here, just read…but I thought I would call your attention to the fact that several hours ago the reporting on this story changed slightly from referring to what was found today as a lower body, or a torso and legs, to just referring to it as remains that are not an intact body. All of the reporting has been changed to remove the description as being just the lower half of a body.

  148. I think Joel Brodsky did the State the greatest favor in procrestinating by waiting for his favorite Judge, as this meant Drew was sitting in jail for a week longer looking at himself in the mirrors while all these new developments were taking place all around him.

He could have been out brothel hopping or disappearing in the Nevada Desert, but by wanting to beat the system, they’ve found the system beat them for a change !!

Oh well you can’t help bad luck !

  149. No disrespect to Cass, but I ALWAYS believed that drew had something to do w/Stacy’s mother disappearing. Drew could have met Stacy long before Cass ever knew about it — I know the girls were very close, but… Drew probably got to know her and the mom didn’t approve — just like Ernie — so drew did something about it — cause we know he wants what he wants when he wants it! Can you imagine what’s going on w/Chrissy now — that must be very sureal for her too — you feel soooo violated when someone you care for (or think you do) lies straight to your face — and then think that she was sleeping w/a murderer!

  150. justan… how true that is! Karma baby! From everyone feeling ISP SAO was doing/acting fast enough, everything sure fell into place perfectely! Can you imagine the possibilities of what drew may have done if he weren’t in jail when all this going down? Although I’m sure he has to love his kids — narcisist and all — he would have most likely left them behind to go hide!

  151. An autopsy will be conducted Thursday morning.
I hope they will finish before Drew’s hearing.
If it is Stacy, he will never go out of jail except some tours to trial.

  152. Thankful that he’s locked up and no threat to his kids upon this finding.

There are no such thing as coincidences.

  153. Morning Cyrhla, ten :-)

I am not surprised to hear bad things about John Carrol. Can’t say why, but I suspect he may belong to the gun-loving misogynist club, too.

    * * * * * * * * * * * *
ROFL Jowl’s grandiose delusions have taken over his asylum, throwing furniture out of the windows and setting light to mattresses. LOL

  155. Good Morning All,

Maybe I’ve watch too many CSI shows, but thinking the underwear if still on remains will be key for DNA.

Also, wonder what evidence in the Savio case will the prosecutor will revealed if bond is reduced. Has someone come forward to finally spill the beans on what ocuurred to Kathleen??

  156. Morning Whitey!

I think the underwear may not have much in the way of anything after being in the river, any soft tissue left would be easy to sample, but they have the pelvis, I think, and tops of femurs, which are both good places to get bone marrow for DNA.

  157. Let’ all pray that this is Stacy or Lisa. And for some reason it’t not, many prayers to this family.
The power of prayer does work. To the families of Stacy and Lisa, my thoughts and prayers are with today, as always…I hope one of these families have closure.

  158. Lordy, I missed a lot yesterday afternoon!! I pray for the family that this woman belongs to. I hate to say that I really hope it is Stacy because of the where things stand with Drew at the moment, its almost like poetic justice on top of the real justice. Though I know the angish that both families are going through. I just cannot imagine such a nightmare.

Regarding the body, didn’t Laci Peterson appear the same way, only it was the bottom half that took long to surface because the weight was on her legs? Maybe Drew thought putting the weight around the top would keep her submerged. Its really gross and sad to think about.

  159. DNA is heavily damaged by water and the identification of a body used to be impossible, but now with the STR typing it is possible. There is also a chance there are traces of DP’s DNA (see: Kevin Fox case).

  160. I promissed to myself I would not speculate today and just wait for the results of the autopsy but I somehow cannot stop thinking and thinking…how someone can be so cold to cut a body and then run his everyday life with no remorses.

  161. Cyrhla – there is no evidence that the body was cut in any way. Normal decomposition and the actions of water will make the remains break apart.

That doesn’t make the actions of a killer any less cold or heartless — cutting or no.

  162. Just watch Fox Chicago and test results won’t be available for a couple of days. Also mentioned that a police source told Craig Wahl(Fox reporter) that the body wasn’t badly decomposed to be either Stacy or Kathleen. Will just have to wait for the test results.

    Bucket,
Was thinking/hoping if body was in the blue barrell it would have helped. Will need to wait and see.

Off to work, you all try and have a good day.

I saw a man taken from a lake in which he was for three years and he was not parted. That is why I came to such a conclusion and because of the barrel, I think (that someone must have put the body there).

Sorry. There must be something wrong with me today:). I need a break LOL

  164. Dear friends: the book “Erased” explains it all.
BTW: did anyone catch the comments made on Nancy Grace’s show from Mark Klaas where he made mention of the eraser-killers and ” the thing” was broached ?

Peterson’s attorney says he’ll watch mock trial

    Associated Press
    6:51 AM CDT, May 21, 2009

CHICAGO – Drew Peterson’s defense attorney says he’ll be taking notes as a Chicago radio station holds a mock trial of his client.

Joel Brodsky says he’ll sitting in the back of the room when hosts Greg Adamski and Karen Conti of WGN’s “Legally Speaking” program tape the mock trial next week.

Adamski and Conti are partners in a Chicago law firm. He’ll serve as moderator while she acts as prosecutor and lawyer Joseph Lopez represents Peterson. Retired Cook County Circuit Court Judge Richard Neville plans to preside, and the jury will be chosen from the audience.

Brodsky says the mock trial will actually consist of just closing arguments.

“The People v. Drew Peterson” is set to be broadcast in two parts, on June 14 and 21.

  166. Mark Klass called it the Peterson gene. Scott, Michael, Drew Peterson. Erase/eliminate to move on. Their spouse no longer fits their lifestyle.

  167. According to the book “Erased” the first documented eraser killer was also named Peterson……early 1900’s. Smug fratboy drowned his pregnant GF.

  168. Good morning, everyone.

Just heard, once again, about how additional information is going to be revealed today regarding Kathleen Savio’s case. Never before heard evidence.

  169. I have never posted but read multiple times daily. You all have some great input and are doing some great detective work. Thanks for keeping us all abreast of the updated news!

  170. This morning on AM 780 Amy Jacobson used the term decapitated. I’ve heard before it was just torso and legs (but wasn’t sure if that also meant arms too). She also said that the underwear were so dirty from being in the water that they couldn’t tell what color they originally were. She then said something I hadn’t heard before and that the remains were partially clothed in jeans. She then said that Lisa was last seen by a witness wearing jogging pants and no one knows for sure what Stacy was wearing. She said the DNA would take 3-10 or 3-7 days (I know it was definitely 3-something).

  171. On FoxChicago this morning there was someone on talking about how Drew is assembling a new defense team including John Carroll. They said that John Carroll had a “checkered past” in death penalty cases and that in one murder case he actually came forward after his client was convicted and told the judge he had made a mistake and had not told his client about a deal that the prosecution was offering him.

  172. “Well, there is no book written on how I’m supposed to act,”

    * * * * * * * * *

Enough, already. There are plenty of books. Not “supposed” so much as what and which behaviours you would reasonably expect. Isn’t that fair as a starting point? If the behaviour doesn’t fit, there will be a reason, and it is perfectly legitimate to tease out those reasons. Maybe autism, for example.
    Or could be guilt.

There are and have been thousands of thousands of profilers, psychologists, psychiatrists, anthropolgists, sociologists, historians, theologians, philosphers, artists, novelists, dramatists, management consultants, etiquette experts,(and so on) who have written thousands of books that have helped us to define what the norms are.

  173. This article talks about, among other things, disarticulation.

Seemed a bit graphic for discussion here.

  174. Facs – Of course he’ll watch the mock trial. He’ll probably be taking notes on how to do closing arguments in a murder case as he apparently fell asleep during his LAW101 course. :)

  175. LOL sounds like Carroll could be who you come up with when you scrape the bottom of a blue barrel. What competent attorney in their right mind would want to touch this case if they have to also work with Brodsky?

  176. I don’t know, I find it odd that Brodsky would describe his client’s reaction to the finding of this poor woman’s body as being “unconcerned.”

Granted, he has to give some kind of response to the public on behalf of his client, I suppose. But, even assuming we’re to believe Peterson’s story that Stacy left of her own will, wouldn’t you think he might be “concerned” that it could be her, meeting with harm the very night she left? So, you know, shouldn’t he be “concerned” that if these are the remains of Stacy (how could he be so sure they’re not), his teen sons will hear the news, as the rest of us will, that their adopted mother met with a violent death? He should be “concerned” about that.

  177. It never made sense from the beginning. Like it didn’t make sense to dispute the 2nd and 3rd autopsy conclusions. It only makes sense if he’s guilty.

  178. I wonder…If this is SP with so much time, just how much will they know about what happened to her
    physically ??

Sounds like there is not much to go with here.

I think the only one who knows what was done to SP is currently incarcerated and not going to tell us.

  179. We hope so much that it is one of these mothers. It would be so much kinder to be the beginning of the end of this nightmare for one of these families than turn out to be someone else’s nightmare just beginning.

  180. Amy Jacobson has added now that there were no arms found and there was no blue barrell near the body. Maybe I need to wait 48 hours before the false reports are cleared up.

  181. TAI, my understanding of the blue barrel was that it was about one mile away from the site where the remains were found.

It might help if the reporters waited 48 hours — before reporting anything other than “remains were found and an investigation is underway.”

With the Internet and the updates to the same story, they must somehow think it doesn’t matter as much if they put out unsubstantiated news. IMO

  182. Noway – so true. Lots of conjecture, rumors. At this point, IMHO, I don’t believe anything I hear on the news. I’ll wait for the official statements, at the very least.

  183. Face it Noway – We’d be pissed if they waited. We want to know everything right away or we wouldn’t be here. :)

BTW all – I don’t know why I couldn’t spell barrel right today.

  184. HI everyone, long time since I have been here. DO not believe the news ya hear , it is obama news and that is all it is . they do not tell the truth anylonger. so just get it from the internet instead is where it is more better. but anyways I do hope it is of stacy I have a feeling it is of her. they may say later on today whom it could be and I hope drewpy stays in jail ,.we know he did it.

  185. Look, I wish everyone would just take a step back and calm the fuck down.

Not everything is a conspiracy, a cover-up or double speak.

News agencies know that people are eager for news and for them news means money. Reputable news agencies get confirmation of the news before they report it, but even then, their sources may not be reliable.

Every breaking story is like this. It’s takes a few days for the real story to congeal and the facts to settle.

    Deep breath. Everyone. Including me.

  186. I had CNN Headline News on earlier, and they announced that they are going to carry the Drew Peterson proceedings live this afternoon. Of course, there are no cameras in Illinois courts, but I assume this means they’re going to carry live reporting as it happens.

  187. Rescue, do the courts allow sound equipment in Illinois? Just wondering if maybe they were going to broadcast the audio on HLN.

  188. Someone brought up a good question elsewhere. Do the pelvic bones get the marks from carrying a baby or delivering the baby? Someone else said that it happens when the baby drops so even if someone had a c-section it may occur. Someone said that Stacy had c-sections for both of her kids.

Need medical expert stat! However, I think it will come down to DNA and all of these other indicators will just back up whatever the DNA findings are.

  189. TAI, I think it’s true that the pelvis is altered just from carrying the baby. There doesn’t need to be a vaginal birth for it to change. Not sure, but…pretty sure.

  190. TAI don’t fret the spelling. Motion from JB Facs posted includes the words ” PAYED” and “SARGENT”.

  191. Danya used to Twitter during the court proceedings right before she left the site. It was interesting to see tidbits as the trial was happening.

  192. It’s from stronger muscle/ligamenty attachments needed to carry the weight of the baby positioned slightly differently (lower) with each successive pregnancy due to droop and gravity and stretched out muscle. forms a little ledge of thickening on the bone, I think.

    Peterson lawyer: Drew’s bond ‘astronomical’
    May 20, 2009 1:35 PM

    COMMENTS:

JOE Raines on May 20, 2009 5:08 PM
I don’t see why a judge would lower the bond for murder. There is no way to know if Drew is a flight risk, and could he be a danger to public safety now that he is charged could be the other matter? I feel my niece is somewhat safe with Drew behind bars, even though she lacks common sense! With a second wife still missing, and Drew being the main suspect, it makes more sense to keep his bail high. This is where the justice system favors someone with money verse someone who is poor with little means. The bail should remain the same for everyone who is charged with murder!

Does anyone think there is cause for alarm since Pat O’Neil is handling this autopsy also?
    ——-

He is not alone. And I wonder if he is a medical examiner. I think he is not.

  195. He is not medically qualified. He doesn’t conduct autopsies (at least he shouldn’t, lol maybe that’s where they’re going wrong)

  196. I think if it is stacy , her family would speak out that it is her possibly maybe before the cops say anything , that is my thought . but maybe we will know later today or when nancy graces is on tonight. or greta

  197. Hey Bucket, like we care if he’s upset! I am “unconcerned” about what his sorry behind is feeling about anything. Keep up the blather, Brodsky! You’re doing a great job of changing the minds of his potential jury pool, you fool!

  198. I’ll bet Brodsky would hope that those that are concerned and worried are right. That plays into his hands, doesn’t it?

I don’t think there’s need to be concerned. I was told the matter is in good hands, and is being handled very well, but I guess some will think what they will. Just trying to be accurate and pass on what I’ve been told by those in the know.

  199. LOL, Brodsky is probably upet, wondering what the next bombshell is going to be. After all, he only knows what his boss tells him, not what the State’s evidence is.

As I understand it from listening to a legal analyst, he really has no grounds to challenge the State’s request. They have the right to request a change. Don’t know where he’s going with his motion, but I am sure he found some blog comments that he can use again.

  200. WGN News Noon Report:

    Marcella Raymond at site.

Reporting identification could take some time. State Police keep saying do not jump to conclusions. This morning, divers were back at the scene, trying to gather more evidence from the River. The body was badly decomposed, but State Police won’t confirm. At some point, all questions will be answered.

They’re saying that it is not unusual to see blue barrels in the waterway. They will not comment if the blue container was taken in.

Terry Sullivan – legal analyst, is saying also that it’s best not to jump to conclusions about the identity of the body. The River slows down in this area, and many things tend to get caught there, as the Damn is nearby. So, it’s not unheard of that it could be another victim. He says depending on what remains are present, they may have to wait for DNA results. If there is a skull or head, they can compare dental records. The ISP might be looking for additional evidence in the area, and are doing the right thing by doing so.

He is saying it might be a little bit more difficult for Peterson to get his bond reduced, due to the implications of the current news about the body.

  201. Mom, it’s being reported that only the legs and torso was found, so there’s nothing at this point to use to compare dental records.

  202. cfs – Thank you. I cannot imagine what the families of any missing loved one in that area are going through. My prayers are with all of them.

  203. Fox at noon reported that there is only half torso and legs, that no dental records will be involved since they don’t have a head. They said that specifically.

  204. They have said other things specifically that were wrong – such as Drew only has 4 children (3 minors and Steve). Why do news sources suck so much at even old information??

  205. I bet that if I had a nickel for every stupid thing Joel said I’d get rich faster than he would with his $10K per body found in a river in the Chicago area.

  207. So – it seems that maybe Joel had to come up with that statement from Drew on his own becuase Selig was busy with his better paying client (well clients now):

Patti and Rod Blagojevich to Take Part in NBC’s ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’

The former first lady of Illinois to compete in NBC’s summer reality series; the former governor to make guest appearances.

    thepublicityagency.com – May 21, 2009

(PRNewsChannel) / Chicago, Ill. / The former first lady of Illinois, Patti Blagojevich, will go to Costa Rica to compete in ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ Patti and her husband, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, appeared on NBC’s Today show to make the official announcement.

“The job was originally offered to her husband but when the judge said he couldn’t go to Costa Rica NBC asked Patti to go in his place,” says Glenn Selig, founder of The Publicity Agency, the public relations firm which represents Patti and Rod Blagojevich. “She accepted and went to LA. earlier this week to take part in a promotional shoot and to prepare for the show.”

While Patti Blagojevich goes to work for her family, the former governor will be ‘Mr. Mom’ to his two daughters, ages 12 and 6.

“He jokes that in a way she will have it easier competing in the jungle,” says Selig. “He knows how hard it is to take care of the kids and to run a home.”

The former governor will be pulling for his wife as she competes on the show for a chance to be win top prizes for charity and for her family.

Even though he won’t be traveling to Costa Rica to be a contestant, the former governor will be involved in the program in other ways which will be a surprise, says Selig.

I could notice that, too. LOL

  209. TAI – Glenn has been tweeting non-stop all day about the Blagos and the reality show. They seem to have taken precedence over the murder suspect client.

I think Glenn is “on the ground” with them, basking in the celebrity fallout.

  210. “While Patti Blagojevich goes to work for her family, the former governor will be ‘Mr. Mom’ to his two daughters, ages 12 and 6.”

    I just totally did a spit-take here.

  211. If I had a penny for every time Drew ogled a young girl … (I think I just threw up a little in my mouth) … I’d be a bajillionaire!

  212. Rescue, do you recall how long ago that sonar image of the body was seen? The image that spurred them to start searching in that area and alerted the maintenance guys to keep an eye out for remains?

  213. In the past, I have read stories about the searchers finding blue 55-gallon trash drums. I thought and could be wrong that trash drums were not plastic but metal/aluminum.

This story states a plastic blue barrel.

  214. Facs: First image was seen in November, 2007; second image was seen six months later, miles south of the first image. I believe there is a third image, but not clear when that was. Where these remains were found, is approximately fourteen miles from the original location (south of where first seen).

The searchers were told to be on high alert, by professionals, in this area in the Spring, and this is where they’ve been concentrating of late.

  215. A snipped bit with some slight detail from Chicago Breaking News:

They were found by Chad Pregracke, the founder of Living Lands & Waters in East Moline, a nonprofit group that cleans up waterways in nine states.

Pregracke, 34, was alone on a 30-foot flat bottom work boat Wednesday shortly before 2:30 p.m., pulling garbage out of the Des Plaines River when he came across the bones.

“When I saw it I stood there for about 10 minutes, just thinking, ‘Man, is that what I think it is?'” he said. “I wasn’t super freaked out or nothing, but I didn’t want to call if it was nothing.”

He declined to describe what he saw or where he saw it in any detail, saying he promised state police investigators he would not. After he was certain the remains were human, Pregracke used his cell phone to call state police, and a state trooper was out within about five minutes, he said.

His crews, which are working from a barge, provided investigators with shovels, rakes, boots and tarps, he said. The skiff used to transport the remains to a waiting coroner’s van, was his, he said.

Pregracke said he was about 10 minutes from leaving to return to the Quad Cities to give a dinner speech to the Pheasants Forever, another conservation group, when he found the remains.

A plastic blue barrel was spotted in the vicinity of the body. Channahon resident Michelle Williams told WGN Radio host John Williams this morning that she and her husband saw the barrel in heavy brush on the riverbank on Sunday and she saw it again on Tuesday.

The significance of a blue barrel is that Drew Peterson’s stepbrother, Thomas Morphey, has said that he helped Peterson remove a blue container from Peterson’s home on the day that Stacy disappeared, and that he believed Stacy’s body was inside it.

But others familiar with the river said blue barrels there are a common sight. Paul Dareak, a bartender at Mugzy’s Hideout, a nearby bar, said he sees them all the time and that some people throw them in as a joke, knowing about the possible connection to Stacy Peterson’s disappearance. A group searching for Stacy Peterson last year pulled out more than 20 from the water, he said

Michele Williams told the Tribune the round barrel she saw, which she said was larger than a trash can, was on its side so she and her husband could not tell if its lid was on.

Williams said the couple reported their discovery to police on Sunday, and spoke to one officer who came out to the scene. Other officers were in the area near the barrel a little later that evening, but she said she was uncertain if they were looking for it. But she and her daughter walked in the same area again on Tuesday and saw the barrel again.

Williams said she called state police after news of the body broke Wednesday, and spoke briefly with a sergeant involved in the investigation, who asked her to forward her account of seeing the barrel, and a cell phone photo they took of it Sunday.

  216. Does anyone know if there is any online link to live coverage of the hearing or news conferences today?

  217. A part of me thinks it would be funny if Joel and Glenn setup these big news conferences and no one showed.

  218. IMO, a blue barrel is a blue barrel. There are hundreds lost or tossed away every year. Not sure that Williams isn’t just looking for her 15 minutes of fame with her ‘barrel discovery’.

This could have nothing to do with the remains found yesterday.

I think she’s actually going to be on Nancy Grace tonight to talk about it.

  219. The way the defense atty I saw put it, once the prosecution asked for a new judge, they got one.

Then, if the defense wants to change that judge (the new one) they can petition to get a new judge themselves and can even do it once more if they like.

He said it’s very common to ask to change judges and some judges are changed up 80% of the time, and some judges have never been changed.

  220. Looks as if Tamara Holder was in court today and tweeted from there, but just to say “Brodsky arguing now.” Would love to get someone in there for every court date sending us minute by minute tweets.

    Who’s up for it?

Prosecutors get new judge in Peterson case

    May 21, 2009 2:26 PM | No Comments | UPDATED STORY

Will County Chief Judge Gerald Kinney today allowed prosecutors to replace a judge in the Drew Peterson murder case, saying the defense had not established a pattern of abuse by the state of its right to replace judges.

“I do not find that this has been established by the defense’s response,” Kinney said during a hearing held at the Will County courthouse.
Prosecutors had filed a motion to replace Judge Richard Schoenstedt, arguing he was prejudiced against the state.

Kinney assigned the case to Judge Carla Alessio Policandriotes — at which point Peterson’s attorney, Joel Brodsky, said he wanted to replace that judge. But after a brief recess, Brodsky withdrew his request.

A hearing with the new judge is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Peterson is in jail for the 2004 death of his previous wife, Kathleen Savio. The former Bolingbrook police sergeant has pleaded not guilty.

  226. I wonder how Joel is going to justify the change of a new judge? Does he already know who it is?
BTW, it sounds great. If they change two judges, then they must stay with the one appointed and will have NO choice at all.
In the meantime, Drew will sit in prison and the ID of the body found will be determined, and Brodsky with Drew will have more opportunities to make idiots of themselves.

Don’t you sometimes have impression Brodsky doesn’t want Peterson to go out of jail at all? Maybe Drew refused to adertise his chicken wings? ;) LOL

  227. Cyrhla – we “know” what the problem with the judge is that she doesn’t have “a frank and beans”. :)

  228. Carla Policandriotes
As a private attorney, Policandriotes was a family lawyer. When she was elected to the bench, she was assigned to the criminal call and remains there. She currently manages all Drug Court referrals.

Elected as a Republican; Retained once.

  229. NOW I know, facs… ;) The news has been changing every second and I cannot keep up with them LOL

I must read about the new judge. Her name sounds familiar to me. Wasn’t she involved in any KS’s order of protection? I may be wrong.

  231. Every single time Joel does stupid crap like this it just means that Drew has a bigger chance of winning an appeal on grounds of ineffective counsel if he is convicted.

Shouldn’t Joel have done his homework and read up on the various judges that could potentially be assigned so he didn’t end up looking like an ass by filing a motion and then immediately appealing it?? WTF?

  232. Does this now mean Drew stays where he is until Friday at 1:30 at which time Judge Carla P. will decide on bond?
