UPDATE July 17:

Chicago Sun-Times
State’s attorney: Cops did not hit on Drew Peterson’s fiancee
July 17, 2009
BY JOE HOSEY jhosey@scn1.com

…Brodsky said he planned to file a motion regarding the state police detective’s supposed romantic overture.

Charles B. Pelkie, the spokesman for the state’s attorney’s office, refuted Brodsky’s accusation, calling it “preposterous and disingenuous.”…

***********************************************
It seems that Ms. Raines is not on the same page as Joel Brodsky when it comes to the definition of “being asked out on a date”, as evidenced by this email sent out on behalf of Christina Raines by her lawyer, Gloria Allred.

Dear Jeff and Kerry,

Last night Greta ran a story about my client Chrissie Raines who is the fiancé of Drew Peterson. Unfortunately before the story was run no one contacted me for a response. I represent Chrissie Raines in the criminal case of People v. Drew Peterson and I am her spokesperson. Enclosed please find my response to the allegation that Greta ran on her show involving Ms. Raines. I hope that Greta will be able to run my response. Thank you very much.

“Chrissie has not had dinner with or gone to the movies with any police officer other than Drew Peterson and she has no interest in doing so. She does not feel that she was “hit on” by any police officer.

We do not think there is a basis for filing a complaint against any police officer and we have no plans to file such a complaint.

Very truly yours,

Gloria Allred

Drew Peterson waives right to speedy trial. Lawyer charges improper ISP conduct towards fiancée.

Drew Peterson murder trial delayed
July 14, 2009 1:32 PM

Drew Peterson’s murder trial won’t be going ahead next month as planned, after he waived his right to a speedy trial today.

During a hearing at the Joliet courthouse, Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky told Judge Stephen White that the defense team needs more time to review some 40,000 pages of evidence.

Peterson was scheduled to stand trial Aug. 24 on charges that he murdered his ex-wife Kathleen Savio in 2004. But White canceled that trial date today, after asking Peterson whether he understood that he was giving up his right to a speedy trial.

Peterson, wearing blue jail scrubs, stared down at his lap and replied “Yes, your honor.”

He did not speak again during the hearing.

Prosecutor John Connor, head of the major crimes unit of the Will County state’s attorney’s office, did not object to the trial delay.

The Selling of Drew Peterson, continued

Steph Watts, formerly of On the Record with Greta Van Susteren and now a freelancer, described on Fox News Chicago tonight how Joel Brodsky approached him with an offer: $200,000 for a story about Drew Peterson and Chrissy Raines, complete with the opportunity to videotape the two of them at home.

The figure of $200,000 was arrived at by their belief that is what the family of Casey Anthony was offered for a story.

Watts stated that were Peterson to be acquitted he imagines Drew and Joel Brodsky would simply “Rejoin the media circus” and the two of them would continue to “pimp themselves out for interviews.”

Rumor has it that NBC paid six figures for the collect-call interview granted to Matt Lauer earlier this week.

Christina Raines hires lawyer, Gloria Allred

Christina Raines

Today, self-described discrimination attorney and feminist lawyer Gloria Allred released a statement on behalf of her new client, Christina Raines.  Here it is in its entirety:

Today, I can confirm that I will be representing Chrissy Raines as a spokesperson in the case of People v. Drew Peterson.

Chrissy, age 24, has known Mr. Peterson for many years. This year they became romantically involved and she lived on and off with him for part of this year. She cares for him and believes that he cares for her. They did have plans to marry once the divorce from Stacy Peterson became final.

Chrissy was shocked when Drew was arrested on a charge that he killed Kathleen Savio (his third wife). She takes no position on whether or not he is guilty of that crime or whether or not he had anything to do with the disappearance of his fourth wife Stacy Peterson. That is for the jury to decide. However, her heart goes out to both families who have suffered such a terrible loss.

Chrissy may be a witness in this case. If called as a witness Chrissy plans to tell the truth.I am in the process of applying to the Illinois Court for permission to represent her in this matter. It will be within the discretion of the Court as to whether or not to admit me for this purpose.

Chrissy has no plans to do any interviews at this time. She wishes to maintain her privacy both at work and at home. Chrissy asks that the press not contact her, since she will not be making any comment, and will simply refer everyone to me. Any such contact with Chrissy will be viewed by me as attempted harassment of a potential witness.

I look forward to working with Chrissy Raines and protecting her rights in this very challenging, emotionally tumultuous, high profile case.

As far as considering approaches to her client as harrassment, if Ms. Raines continues to make obscene gestures, and to swear and swat at the press, I get the feeling they are only going to be more inclined to pursue quotes from her. Some ladylike behavior might be more fitting with her apparent desire to be left in peace.

I somehow doubt that Chrissy’s heart goes out to the families. Her actions have shown nothing but disrespect for them since the beginning and her actions speak volumes. I hardly think they need or desire the condolences of the woman who jokes to Drew, “Are you going to drown me in the bathtub, too?”

Fatal Vows – Update on Susan Murphy Milano’s New Show

April 9, 2009 facsmiley 239 comments
Fatal Vows by Joe Hosey

Fatal Vows by Joe Hosey

Yesterday, Susan Murphy Milano debuted her new blogttalk radio show. Rescueapet and I were graciously invited to ask some questions about the Drew Peterson cases of her guest, Joe Hosey as was Delilah from Peace4theMissing.  We tried to ask the questions that people posted here, so I hope you heard yours answered.

Not everyone was able to hear the show or to download the MP3, and have asked us for a synopsis, and I started to write one but I just sort of ended up transcribing the Q & A portion of the show plus a little more.

Here you go:

Intro by Susan MM: Lies women tell themselves as they endure daily abuse, the secrets they hold close to their hearts for fear their true identity as battered women will be revealed and the life they lead until one day we all read about them with our morning coffee, suddenly vanished without a trace, their lifeless bodies discovered.

Q: What is the status of the Grand Jury?

JOE: After the eighteen-month term is over they’re going to have to have to let them go, by law. They’d have to empanel a whole new Grand Jury and bring them up to speed and I think that would take an awful lot of time after eighteen months of testimony to bring an entirely new Grand Jury up to speed. I would hope that, you know you hear from State’s Attorney’s office that there’s going to be an imminent resolution. He didn’t say ‘imminent’, he said pending resolution. I would hope that’s coming soon but I hope it’s before this Grand Jury term expires.

Q: So it’s still going on?

JOE: Yes, I believe until the first week of May. If my memory serves me, I believe Drew was at the first session of the Grand Jury and that was the first Wednesday after Stacy was reported missing or the second Wednesday. That would have been the first week in November and that would make eighteen weeks the first week in May.

Q: When Joe was last on your radio show he mentioned that he was surprised that Drew hasn’t been arrested yet and it seems like Joe does know some things that we don’t. Why is Joe wondering why Drew has not been arrested?

SUSAN: What happens is you can’t dilute the importance of a case. Sometimes you can allude to things, you want to say things. You want to keep the integrity of the case. You want to keep the integrity of you as a journalist. Am I wrong Joe?

JOE: No, you’re absolutely right. I’m doing the best I can to get the things that I know in the paper. Maybe if I did a better job they’d be in there by now, but I’m doing the best I can. Also, things that I hear and I don’t know if they’re true I’m still working on trying to find out if some of the things that I’m told, if I can prove them. I can’t just repeat things that I hear.

SUSAN: Joe is part of a list of very credible reporters who will only report the facts because if he doesn’t it’s really going to hurt because he’ll be brought in for questioning himself. He could be subpoenaed to the Grand Jury for articles he’s written or things that he has said, and that’s why everybody has been so careful.

The Selling of Drew Peterson

Drew is expecting a nicer headline this time around?

Drew is expecting a nicer headline this time around?

Today, Drew Peterson’s PR agency announced that Drew Peterson and the Idiot Woman-child, Christina Raines, will be featured in Friday’s upcoming issue of People Magazine.

Drew’s publicity agent, Glenn Selig, states, “For Mr. Peterson, this was an opportunity for People readers to see him in a new light.”

Ridiculous PR spin aside, it was also yet another opportunity for Drew to cash in on the notoriety that has surrounded him since he became the only suspect in his fourth wife’s, disappearance (and possibly the homicide of his third wife).

Last week we heard from Randy Miller of WGN radio that Joel Brodsky charges for interviews with his client, or as Joel so elegantly puts it, “Yeah Drew will do it. It’s going to cost you some money.”  If a media outlet shows some qualms about ponying up cash, Joel tries to work out a barter, trading air-time with Drew for advertisement for his bar; as long as “the plug [is not] connected in any way to Drew Peterson or his attorney”.

Strange behavior from a defense team that has lashed out at every potential witness for the prosecution with accusations that they are speaking out only for financial gain.

When Drew’s old friend Ric Mims spoke of Drew showing him a fold-up gun in his possession, Brodsky dismissed it saying, “I think this is just another story that Mr. Mims is trying to shop to The Enquirer… He made money, you know, selling some pictures of a bed to The Enquirer. Now he’s trying to do it again.”

Coming Soon to You on Pay-per-Drew: Drew Peterson is Spoiling for a Fight

March 3, 2009 rescueapet 104 comments

Well, it looks like things were quiet for too long, a mere few days!  Peterson is cranking up not only that celeb machine, but the money-making machine as well.  Of course, any money he makes from yet another one of his ventures isn’t for him, it’s his children, he claims, that will ultimately cash in.

Peterson May Fight GF’s ex-BF
Steve Miller Reporting
WBBM Newsradio 780

(WBBM) – Drew Peterson says West Coast promoters may set up a fight between him and his live-in girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend. It is the latest twist in a sideshow that’s almost a year and a half old now. Drew Peterson says he has been challenged to a fight by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend. “Let him put his money where his mouth is and see what he’s got. Actually, he’s been kind of nuisancy to her and the guy was stalking her.” Peterson’s girlfriend is Christina Raines, 24.

Trained as a police officer, 55-year-old Peterson says it’s been 35 years since he was in a fight. “I mean, it’s going to be interesting watching me take on a guy 25 years my junior. But we’ll see how it goes.” WBBM asked Peterson what he’d do with his share of the money: keep it or give it to charity. “My biggest charity is my children. So if anything develops or if I make any money from it, anything would be for their future.” Peterson is a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife Stacy, and his third wife died under mysterious circumstances.

UPDATE: 3/5/09

There has been some confusion about who originally challenged whom to this fight.
In an attempt to clear this up I emailed Sherman at Q101, who replied and explained that the clips posted on the Q101 site are incomplete. They omit the part of the interview where Mike challenged Drew, right before Drew called in to the station.

He included an MP3 of the missing part.

TRANSCRIPT:

SHERMAN: If Drew was listening right now, what would you want to say to him?

MIKE: I just think, I think that he’s a scumbag. That’s it, and I think that… He aggravates me so much on this with the fact that he has screwed up her head so bad. I mean, I’m not jealous of the fact that I got broken up with because everybody gets broken up with. People are married for thirty years who get broken up with. Who cares? My biggest thing is I’m just so, so aggravated at what he’s doing to her that I just, seriously, I would love to get in a boxing ring with this guy. I would love just to throw on gloves and just go like four of six rounds with him.

SHERMAN: That much, huh?

MIKE: Yes. That’s what I want to do. Yeah. I would love to do that.

Drew Peterson Wouldn’t “Man Up”

February 28, 2009 rescueapet 40 comments

If you have trouble viewing the embedded video, there is a link at the bottom of the page to watch it externally.

Last summer, Lenny Wawczak confronted Drew Peterson in a Bolingbrook parking lot, which was the subject of a media frenzy for a while.  This was shortly after it was reported that he and Paula Stark were wearing wires to gather information on Drew.  It appeared to be a confrontation Lenny initiated to iron out the day’s events regarding his son feeling intimidated by Drew.  Of course, Drew used his own spin to try and mangle the events to appear that it was remarks he made about Paula that were the subject of Lenny’s ire.  However, when Lenny confronted Drew directly, Drew wouldn’t “man up.”

Drew’s idea of being a man appears to mean cutting off any and all contacts of his love interest of the moment, so it is he that is the center of her universe.  In much of the media coverage regarding his relationships with women, both during his marriages to Kathleen and Stacy, up to the present, Drew has tried to justify why he is the better choice in men for each of them.  He has lashed out at their parents, their siblings, extended families, friends, co-workers, classmates and, most of all, their prior relationships.  Only he, as he so enjoys reminding us, is capable of providing love, nurturing and comfort, and a stable home with financial stability.

Drew Peterson will never be a man when considering what he brings into his relationships.   The only things Drew can man up to are carefully contrived media circuses that promote his perception of his fighting abilities.  Hawking his abilities to try and get Geraldo Rivera to agree to one of his publicity stunts, or calling into a radio station to hammer out his rules to engage Mike Siuda in a fight are hardly manly actions.  Put him in a parking lot with an angry ex-friend, or in a bar with an angry boyfriend, and he calls in the reserves – 911, or a host of sympathetic street rats to stand-in for him.

Quit abusing women and the people in their lives.  Man up, Drew.  It’s about time.

"Hands and feet!"

"Hands and feet!"

This morning, Drew Peterson called in to the Sherman and Tingle show at Q101 while they were talking to Mike Siuda, the ex-boyfriend of Chrissy Raines. My guess was that Drew must already have a venue booked for the Geraldo fight and he’s afraid of losing his deposit, but Sherman assures me that Drew’s call was a complete surprise and that Q101 is now working on getting a venue for this latest stunt. *sigh*

The one thing about their conversation that interested me (besides Chrissy constantly yelling in the background) was Mike’s accusation that Drew had illegally gotten information on his legal standing. More interesting was Drew’s admission that this is true: “You’ve been checked on, brother.”

As usual, I transcribed the crap out of it. I can’t tell a Sherman from a Tingle so I did my best…
*****************************

S or T: We have in the studio right now, Mike, who is the ex-boyfriend of Christina Raines who is now Drew Peterson’s fiancée.
S or T: Actually we have Drew Peterson on the line right now. This is truly Drew Peterson?

PETERSON: This is truly Drew Peterson:

S or T: Alright, let’s have a conversation. Drew Peterson, we appreciate you calling up. Do you have anything you’d like to reply back to Mike that’s in the studio right now?

PETERSON: Well obviously she didn’t leave him to be with me. She left him because she didn’t want to be with him anymore and she had to put up with him stalking her. She had to put up with coming home drunk and one night he threw her and the two kids out in the cold at 2 o’clock in the morning.

SIUDA: Is that really how it happened? Is it?

PETERSON: The constant fighting. Coming home and cutting up her clothes, the stalking and pulling her out of bars…

S or T: Did you ever cut up any clothes?

SIUDA: Never. Never ever. Never

S or T: Did you stalk at all?

SIUDA: No. there was never any stalking. There was never any anything. You know you were the problem and why she left. You know exactly.

PETERSON: Do you have an order of protection on you from a prior girlfriend?

SIUDA: I have no idea. No I don’t, actually.

PETERSON: I think you do!

SIUDA: How would you know that?

PETERSON: Because you’ve been checked on, brother.

SIUDA: Oh, I know. You looked into my private records because you’re a scumbag.

PETERSON: [Laughing]

Christina Raines to Drew Peterson: “Are you Going to Drown Me in the Bathtub Too?”

February 17, 2009 facsmiley 119 comments

I'm just playing!

I'm just playing!

Yes, Christina Raines and Drew Peterson appeared together on the Mancow and Cassidy show this morning and as I imagined might happen, the shenanigans made me despair for humanity.

Did Glenn Selig book this  horror show of callousness and idiocy?

As one of Drew’s youngsters injured itself and wailed in the hallway, Drew and Chrissy cuddled and answered questions in the WLS studio. Chrissy seemed clueless and infantile–barely audible. Was she refusing to approach the mic, or just too intimidated to speak up?

With all the composure of an insecure adolescent, this mother of two and fiancée of a double-murder suspect, gained confidence as she flirted with the show’s hosts and then blurted out tasteless jokey replies to questions, only to immediately retract her answers.

MULLER: When he first asked you out, what did you think? Were you nervous at first?
RAINES: I thought he was weird. I thought he was trying to molest me.. Just joking!

***STUNT ALERT***

As for Drew himself, he gave credence to the reality show rumors (remember Drew spoke to a Las Vegas boxing rep) by challenging Geraldo Rivera to a fight in Las Vegas.

PETERSON: Geraldo, quit messing with her dad. Quit messing with her family. I think if you’ve got something to say you should come say it to my face and I think if you really have it in for me like you say, I think me and you should go out back and take the gloves off and go at it a little bit. Geraldo Rivera, I’m challenging you to a fight.
MULLER: You’re challenging Geraldo Rivera to a fight.
PETERSON: Yes I am.
MULLER: Where would this take place?
PETERSON: Let’s put it on TV. Let’s do it for some charity event.
MULLER: Would you do it in Chicago or do it in New York?
PETERSON: Let’s do it in Vegas.

Meanwhile the bromance between Drew and Mancow continues to blossom.

CASSIDY: You went to church together a couple of times—Mancow’s church in the West Loop and what was that like for you, Drew?
PETERSON: I’m heartfelt that Mancow’s the only person on the planet that’s taken any interest in my soul and I appreciate him as a person, for that.
CASSIDY: …I know he was on the phone with you talking about your soul.
PETERSON: Right.
CASSIDY: And it’s like he really cares. It’s not a bunch of hooey.
PETERSON: It’s true. If you sit in church with him it’s very real and heartfelt.

I think there are plenty of the people on the planet concerned for Drew Peterson’s soul. But by all indications, he’s knocking on the wrong doors and speed dialing the wrong names on his cellphone. I’d advise him to stop turning to the people who are going to make a buck from getting close to him. Maybe reach out to some actual clergy, rather than a washed up shock-jock who makes Drew his plus-one to comped shows at the House of Blues.

Download an MP3 of the Show at the WLS web site.

Read a rush transcript (unproofread).

BTW, don’t forget that Drew has a status hearing for the Savio Estate case at the River Valley Justice Center tomorrow morning, at 9 am.
