drew-wont-shut-upDrew Peterson will be in court again this Friday, July 10, for a motions hearing. At that time Judge Stephen White should rule on continued motions and hear any new ones.

At Peterson’s last hearing Joel Brodsky argued six motions before the judge. He asked that prosecutors be required to give more details about their theory of how Peterson killed Kathleen Savio as well as summaries of the 9,470 investigative reports provided to the defense. This was denied. The judge also denied the request that Peterson be allowed to retain evidence against him while he is in jail.

At the last hearing Judge White asked the prosecution to reveal if payment or other consideration was given to Paula Stark, Len Wawczak or Thomas Morphey in exchange for their testimony. He also agreed to enter an order forbidding the state from listening to recorded phone calls between Peterson and his attorneys; although John Connor, chief of the Will County State’s Attorney’s major crimes unit stated that prosecutors have not been listening in.

The prosecution was also asked to produce a list of the fifty witnesses most likely to be called to testify, from over 800 witnesses originally named.

PETERSON GRAND JURY HEARS WIRE TAP TESTIMONY
By DICK JOHNSON

Updated 11:30 AM CDT, Thu, May 14, 2009

The former friends of Drew Peterson who allegedly wore wire taps to record potentially incriminating conversations with him are before a Will County grand jury today.

The grand jury is in its final two weeks of work toward a possible indictment in the disappearance of Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy.

landpAlso in front of the grand jury is Thomas Morphey, Drew’s stepbrother, who claims he helped carry a blue plastic barrel out of the Peterson home, which he now believes contained Stacy’s dead body.

Read the story at NBC Chicago News

BTW, Steve Carcerano also appeared before Grand Jury today.

MAY 15 UPDATE: Mike Robinson also testified at yesterday’s Grand Jury.

Fatal Vows – Update on Susan Murphy Milano’s New Show

April 9, 2009 facsmiley 239 comments
Fatal Vows by Joe Hosey

Fatal Vows by Joe Hosey

Yesterday, Susan Murphy Milano debuted her new blogttalk radio show. Rescueapet and I were graciously invited to ask some questions about the Drew Peterson cases of her guest, Joe Hosey as was Delilah from Peace4theMissing.  We tried to ask the questions that people posted here, so I hope you heard yours answered.

Not everyone was able to hear the show or to download the MP3, and have asked us for a synopsis, and I started to write one but I just sort of ended up transcribing the Q & A portion of the show plus a little more.

Here you go:

Intro by Susan MM: Lies women tell themselves as they endure daily abuse, the secrets they hold close to their hearts for fear their true identity as battered women will be revealed and the life they lead until one day we all read about them with our morning coffee, suddenly vanished without a trace, their lifeless bodies discovered.

Q: What is the status of the Grand Jury?

JOE: After the eighteen-month term is over they’re going to have to have to let them go, by law. They’d have to empanel a whole new Grand Jury and bring them up to speed and I think that would take an awful lot of time after eighteen months of testimony to bring an entirely new Grand Jury up to speed. I would hope that, you know you hear from State’s Attorney’s office that there’s going to be an imminent resolution. He didn’t say ‘imminent’, he said pending resolution. I would hope that’s coming soon but I hope it’s before this Grand Jury term expires.

Q: So it’s still going on?

JOE: Yes, I believe until the first week of May. If my memory serves me, I believe Drew was at the first session of the Grand Jury and that was the first Wednesday after Stacy was reported missing or the second Wednesday. That would have been the first week in November and that would make eighteen weeks the first week in May.

Q: When Joe was last on your radio show he mentioned that he was surprised that Drew hasn’t been arrested yet and it seems like Joe does know some things that we don’t. Why is Joe wondering why Drew has not been arrested?

SUSAN: What happens is you can’t dilute the importance of a case. Sometimes you can allude to things, you want to say things. You want to keep the integrity of the case. You want to keep the integrity of you as a journalist. Am I wrong Joe?

JOE: No, you’re absolutely right. I’m doing the best I can to get the things that I know in the paper. Maybe if I did a better job they’d be in there by now, but I’m doing the best I can. Also, things that I hear and I don’t know if they’re true I’m still working on trying to find out if some of the things that I’m told, if I can prove them. I can’t just repeat things that I hear.

SUSAN: Joe is part of a list of very credible reporters who will only report the facts because if he doesn’t it’s really going to hurt because he’ll be brought in for questioning himself. He could be subpoenaed to the Grand Jury for articles he’s written or things that he has said, and that’s why everybody has been so careful.

The Selling of Drew Peterson

Drew is expecting a nicer headline this time around?

Drew is expecting a nicer headline this time around?

Today, Drew Peterson’s PR agency announced that Drew Peterson and the Idiot Woman-child, Christina Raines, will be featured in Friday’s upcoming issue of People Magazine.

Drew’s publicity agent, Glenn Selig, states, “For Mr. Peterson, this was an opportunity for People readers to see him in a new light.”

Ridiculous PR spin aside, it was also yet another opportunity for Drew to cash in on the notoriety that has surrounded him since he became the only suspect in his fourth wife’s, disappearance (and possibly the homicide of his third wife).

Last week we heard from Randy Miller of WGN radio that Joel Brodsky charges for interviews with his client, or as Joel so elegantly puts it, “Yeah Drew will do it. It’s going to cost you some money.”  If a media outlet shows some qualms about ponying up cash, Joel tries to work out a barter, trading air-time with Drew for advertisement for his bar; as long as “the plug [is not] connected in any way to Drew Peterson or his attorney”.

Strange behavior from a defense team that has lashed out at every potential witness for the prosecution with accusations that they are speaking out only for financial gain.

When Drew’s old friend Ric Mims spoke of Drew showing him a fold-up gun in his possession, Brodsky dismissed it saying, “I think this is just another story that Mr. Mims is trying to shop to The Enquirer… He made money, you know, selling some pictures of a bed to The Enquirer. Now he’s trying to do it again.”

Drew Peterson: Where is the Love?

Drew Peterson cutting down ribbons honoring his missing wife on Sunday.

Recently, I came across a Facebook comment from Tom Morphey’s sister, Sue Cathcart. She wrote, “The entire Morphey family is anxiously awaiting SOMETHING to put this murderer away! It is incomprehensible that Drew is walking around a free man, destroying the lives of his innocent children and mocking the justice system. I pray for some closure for Kathleen & Stacy’s families, and normalcy for the Morphey family. Thanks to everyone who has encouraged and supported my brother, Tommy, during this difficult time for him.”

Sue isn’t the only person to come forward in support of Tom Morphey, the man who claims to have helped his brother move a blue container from Drew Peterson’s house the night that Stacy Peterson went missing. Tom’s brother, John Morphey, has also spoken publicly in defense of his brother. He’s described Tom as a man with a past of drug and alcohol abuse, but also as a man who has worked hard to clean up. He describes his brother as trusting and loyal saying “He’s loyal to a fault. Put it this way: His sophomore year of high school, he was playing football [at Hinsdale South High School] and one of the guys on his team picked up the ball and ran the wrong way. Tom blocked for him.”

Tom’s friend Walter Martinek says, “He’s a down-to-earth person. He’ll give you the shirt off his back. I can’t say nothing bad about him. His past is his past. From when I moved into the neighborhood six years ago, I’ve never seen no problems whatsoever.”

These people have all come forward in support of a man who Drew Peterson’s defense is trying to paint as someone with “severe mental illness, drug and alcohol addiction“; someone who lies and hallucinates; a man who thirsts so much for approval that he’ll admit to knowing about and being involved in the murder of his sister-in-law. Yet, there are people who will stand up to vouch for and defend Tom Morphey.

So, where are Drew Peterson’s supporters?

Joel Brodsky: This Witness Isn’t Credible Because He’s Lying–I Mean Confused!

"Nothing against people with mental illness..."

"Nothing against people with mental illness..."

Tuesday afternoon, in response to Thomas Morphey coming forward and giving a detailed account of his knowledge of the events surrounding the disappearance of Stacy Peterson, Joel Brodsky held a news conference.

In front of a handful of bored-looking reporters, he recited the same tired defense we’ve heard for the last seventeen months: Thomas Morphey is delusional and suffers from mental illness. He never came to Drew’s house. There was no blue barrel. Not in the past, the present or the future (pretty neat trick that–seeing into the future).

But earlier in the day Joel strayed from the script a little and told Steve Miller of WBBM that maybe Tom was just confused, “There’s probably things in the past that Morphey might have done – helping Drew unload a truck on some job project or something, that Morphey, in his mind, may have twisted around.”

Joel Brodsky did the same thing when the Engagement Stunt fiasco was in the news. Joel at first completely denied that there was any sort of stunt. But, when it got a little hot for him (since the Idiot Woman-child, Christina Raines, claimed that it was in fact, Joel who had plotted it) he hedged a bit saying, “I don’t blame her. She made a mistake. She basically confused a couple of things she overheard and just didn’t know what she was really saying…”

Drew Peterson Wouldn’t “Man Up”

February 28, 2009 rescueapet 40 comments

If you have trouble viewing the embedded video, there is a link at the bottom of the page to watch it externally.

Last summer, Lenny Wawczak confronted Drew Peterson in a Bolingbrook parking lot, which was the subject of a media frenzy for a while.  This was shortly after it was reported that he and Paula Stark were wearing wires to gather information on Drew.  It appeared to be a confrontation Lenny initiated to iron out the day’s events regarding his son feeling intimidated by Drew.  Of course, Drew used his own spin to try and mangle the events to appear that it was remarks he made about Paula that were the subject of Lenny’s ire.  However, when Lenny confronted Drew directly, Drew wouldn’t “man up.”

Drew’s idea of being a man appears to mean cutting off any and all contacts of his love interest of the moment, so it is he that is the center of her universe.  In much of the media coverage regarding his relationships with women, both during his marriages to Kathleen and Stacy, up to the present, Drew has tried to justify why he is the better choice in men for each of them.  He has lashed out at their parents, their siblings, extended families, friends, co-workers, classmates and, most of all, their prior relationships.  Only he, as he so enjoys reminding us, is capable of providing love, nurturing and comfort, and a stable home with financial stability.

Drew Peterson will never be a man when considering what he brings into his relationships.   The only things Drew can man up to are carefully contrived media circuses that promote his perception of his fighting abilities.  Hawking his abilities to try and get Geraldo Rivera to agree to one of his publicity stunts, or calling into a radio station to hammer out his rules to engage Mike Siuda in a fight are hardly manly actions.  Put him in a parking lot with an angry ex-friend, or in a bar with an angry boyfriend, and he calls in the reserves – 911, or a host of sympathetic street rats to stand-in for him.

Quit abusing women and the people in their lives.  Man up, Drew.  It’s about time.
