The Peterson home

Peterson’s house going to auction block?

November 11, 2009

BY MICHAEL SNEED Sun-Times Columnist

Scoopsville: Huh? Sneed hears an attorney for jailed murder suspect Drew Peterson is hoping to rent out/auction off Peterson’s empty Bolingbrook home for broadcast use during his upcoming trial!

“We are thinking it could be an excellent site for a news broadcast during the trial,” said attorney Walter Maksym, who filed a federal suit against JP Morgan Chase bank recently for suspending Peterson’s access to his $220,000 credit line.

“It would be a perfect place for someone like Geraldo Rivera. Don’t you think?” Maksym told Sneed.

Peterson, who is in jail charged with the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, was hoping to use the credit line to post part of his bond, pay his attorneys and hire expert witnesses. The credit line was authorized in 2005 and suspended by the bank in May.

“If he can’t pay for his own defense, the taxpayers could wind up paying for the enormous cost of the defense,” Maksym said. “I’m not handling his murder case. I’m working with his attorney Joel Brodsky, who is vigorously defending him, and we are looking for any way possible to raise money so Peterson won’t be denied a fair trial. The bank severed his credit line because Peterson is being detained for trial, and we believe it violates federal law.”

Auctioneer Leslie Hindman tells Sneed she received a call from Maksym on Tuesday wondering if she might auction off “the use of Peterson’s house as a site for broadcast during the trial.”

Quoth Hindman: “I said, ‘No. I’m not interested in doing such a thing. It would be much too weird.’

The Peterson home, which once housed his missing fourth wife, Stacy, and four children, has been vacant since Peterson was incarcerated in May.

Step-daughter, Lisa Ward, alleges sexual abuse by Drew Peterson

Drew Peterson’s Former Step-Daughter Speaks Out Exclusively to INSIDE EDITION
Airdate: 10/9/2009

“How does a father do that to a child?” Tears flow from a woman who says she suffered beatings and sexual abuse at the hands of her notorious former stepdad, Drew Peterson.

“I was beat with a belt, with my pants down.”

Peterson is now behind bars, charged with the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He’s pled not guilty.

“He looked…cold, heartless, exactly the same person that I’ve known my whole life,” says Ward of seeing Peterson, on TV, for the first time in years.

Lisa Ward was just 8 years old when her mom Vicky met and fell in love with Peterson in 1984. From day one, Lisa says she was terrified of Peterson, who was working as an undercover narcotics cop.

“He grabbed me back of head pushed and said whether I liked it or not he was going to marry my mother and he was going to be my father and I would respect him.”

She says her new step-dad was a control freak with a volatile temper. “You could just feel the tension throughout the house. You would just cringe, and hope that rage wasn’t coming back at you.”

And Lisa makes a shocking allegation about humiliating punishments she says continued into her early teens: “He would make me go into his room and pull down my pants and expose myself to him completely so I could be spanked bare bottom. The more I fought the worse it was.”

When her mom was hospitalized after a near-fatal car crash, she says Peterson did unspeakable things to her. She was only 14.

“He had told me that he missed my mother so much that he didn’t want to be without her. He asked me to come lay down with him. He had tried to touch me in an inappropriate way. I went in my room locked my door, and I thought to myself that can’t be happening,” she says tearfully.

Why was Kathleen Savio’s third autopsy “news” last week?

Authorities exhume the body of Kathleen Savio at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Ill.

Authorities exhume the body of Kathleen Savio 11/13/2007

Last week Lisa Bloom appeared on CNN’s Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell with a story about Dr. Michael Baden’s autopsy of the remains of Kathleen Savio, promising “jaw-dropping” and “gruesome” details. Then followed stories on CNN, CBS and numerous local news outlets.

For anyone who has been following the Drew Peterson cases, it was a bit of a déjà vu experience. There was essentially no new information in any of the reports. Since Dr. Baden performed his autopsy at the request of the Savio family in November 2007, he has made public his opinion that Savio was beaten, that she struggled, and that her drowning death was a result of an act of homicide.

So why were news outlets resurrecting this 20-month-old story? It appears that Lisa Bloom got possession of Baden’s actual report on his autopsy findings and a hard-copy of the document was enough to warrant a news story.

The report itself doesn’t appear to shed any new evidentiary light on what may have happened to Kathleen Savio during the last days of February, 2004. Yes, there are details about the condition of her remains that aren’t pleasant to read. Velez-Mitchell called these details “gruesome” but in reality they are only sad. Naturally, a body exhumed after three years in the grave will have undergone some decomposition, but that’s not what should be making us cringe or shudder.

What should be giving us goosebumps is the thought that she was murdered, that she predicted it and pointed out the man who would kill her to no avail, that she cried out for help and was ignored, that after her murder a sham of an inquest betrayed and insulted her and consigned her to the ground to wait for three years until yet another tragedy shed new light on her case.

So, we’ve heard these details and opinions before. Well, fine then. Why not hear them again? The story should be told over and over — even if it isn’t “news”. Kathleen’s family and friends live it every day.

REMINDER: If you have any legal/courtroom questions about the case for Karen Conti, please continue to post or email them and we’ll post her replies. Thanks!

Chicago Sun-Times
State’s attorney: Cops did not hit on Drew Peterson’s fiancee
July 17, 2009
BY JOE HOSEY jhosey@scn1.com

…Brodsky said he planned to file a motion regarding the state police detective’s supposed romantic overture.

Charles B. Pelkie, the spokesman for the state’s attorney’s office, refuted Brodsky’s accusation, calling it “preposterous and disingenuous.”…

***********************************************
It seems that Ms. Raines is not on the same page as Joel Brodsky when it comes to the definition of “being asked out on a date”, as evidenced by this email sent out on behalf of Christina Raines by her lawyer, Gloria Allred.

Dear Jeff and Kerry,

Last night Greta ran a story about my client Chrissie Raines who is the fiancé of Drew Peterson. Unfortunately before the story was run no one contacted me for a response. I represent Chrissie Raines in the criminal case of People v. Drew Peterson and I am her spokesperson. Enclosed please find my response to the allegation that Greta ran on her show involving Ms. Raines. I hope that Greta will be able to run my response. Thank you very much.

“Chrissie has not had dinner with or gone to the movies with any police officer other than Drew Peterson and she has no interest in doing so. She does not feel that she was “hit on” by any police officer.

We do not think there is a basis for filing a complaint against any police officer and we have no plans to file such a complaint.

Very truly yours,

Gloria Allred

Drew Peterson waives right to speedy trial. Lawyer charges improper ISP conduct towards fiancée.

Drew Peterson murder trial delayed
July 14, 2009 1:32 PM

Drew Peterson’s murder trial won’t be going ahead next month as planned, after he waived his right to a speedy trial today.

During a hearing at the Joliet courthouse, Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky told Judge Stephen White that the defense team needs more time to review some 40,000 pages of evidence.

Peterson was scheduled to stand trial Aug. 24 on charges that he murdered his ex-wife Kathleen Savio in 2004. But White canceled that trial date today, after asking Peterson whether he understood that he was giving up his right to a speedy trial.

Peterson, wearing blue jail scrubs, stared down at his lap and replied “Yes, your honor.”

He did not speak again during the hearing.

Prosecutor John Connor, head of the major crimes unit of the Will County state’s attorney’s office, did not object to the trial delay.

Drew Peterson’s would-be hitman revealed?

From Fox News Chicago

34 year-old Jeffrey Pachter is a warehouse worker who got to know Drew Peterson in the mid-90s when they both worked for a cable wiring company, that according to Pachter’s wife.

Peterson at the time was moonlighting from his job as a Bolingbrook Police Sergeant.

Pachter, who was 18, had been charged with criminal sexual abuse for his relationship with a girl who court records indicate was 13-to-16 years old.

Peterson reportedly helped Pachter get court records that later resulted in Pachter pleading guilty to a lesser charge.

When prosecutors arrested Peterson and charged him with the 2004 murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, they alleged he tried to hire a hit man in late 2003, while divorcing Savio.

Pachter’s wife, whom Jeffrey is now divorcing, said he never mentioned it at the time.

But late last year when Pachter tried to reconcile with his family, he told her all about it.

According to Mrs. Pachter, Jeff said Peterson called one night and offered him $25-thousand to kill Savio but he said no and no money was ever paid.

He only told one person at the time. That friend, she says, kept the secret until Peterson’s fourth wife Stacy disappeared, and then he went to police.

Pachter is vacation with his parents in Wisconsin.

We reached his mother by phone and she said they had no comment.

Thanks, Lola, for spotting this!

UPDATE June 28:

Public records show that Jeffrey Pachter was charged with a crime, paid his dues, and that the case was closed in 1995.

09-29-1995 0001 4650 TERMINATE SENTENCE – SATISFACTORILY

In the eyes of the law, Jeffrey A. Pachter “satisfactorily” paid his debt to society 15 years ago.

The public records show he has no further cases of criminal sexual abuse on his record. DuPage County records show that his only active case is that of the current divorce: Case Number 2009D 000064.

Drew Peterson and Mancow Found New Church.

April 1, 2009 facsmiley 129 comments

Drew's Church of Wings It began shortly after murder suspect Drew Peterson’s first appearance on Mancow’s morning radio show at WLS.

A strong spiritual connection was forged somewhere between the time when Mancow Muller thought he had scored an interview with Drew Peterson’s new fiancee, Christina Raines, and the moment when he was informed that there had been a falling out between the two and that he would be interviewing only Drew Peterson.

In a moment of spiritual revelation, much like that of St. Paul who fell from his horse and experienced an epiphany, Mancow Muller became aware that he was to become spiritual advisor to Drew Peterson.

Shortly afterward they were spotted together at the City Church of Chicago, where Drew signed up for Pastor Alli Munsey’s  Ladies KickBoxing/bible study classes only to be told that is was a women-only class. Undaunted, Drew Peterson continued to follow in the way of Mancow. As Drew said, “It’s true. If you sit in church with him it’s very real and heartfelt. I’m heartfelt that Mancow’s the only person on the planet that’s taken any interest in my soul and I appreciate him as a person, for that.”

Coming Soon to You on Pay-per-Drew: Drew Peterson is Spoiling for a Fight

March 3, 2009 rescueapet 104 comments

Well, it looks like things were quiet for too long, a mere few days!  Peterson is cranking up not only that celeb machine, but the money-making machine as well.  Of course, any money he makes from yet another one of his ventures isn’t for him, it’s his children, he claims, that will ultimately cash in.

Peterson May Fight GF’s ex-BF
Steve Miller Reporting
WBBM Newsradio 780

(WBBM) – Drew Peterson says West Coast promoters may set up a fight between him and his live-in girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend. It is the latest twist in a sideshow that’s almost a year and a half old now. Drew Peterson says he has been challenged to a fight by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend. “Let him put his money where his mouth is and see what he’s got. Actually, he’s been kind of nuisancy to her and the guy was stalking her.” Peterson’s girlfriend is Christina Raines, 24.

Trained as a police officer, 55-year-old Peterson says it’s been 35 years since he was in a fight. “I mean, it’s going to be interesting watching me take on a guy 25 years my junior. But we’ll see how it goes.” WBBM asked Peterson what he’d do with his share of the money: keep it or give it to charity. “My biggest charity is my children. So if anything develops or if I make any money from it, anything would be for their future.” Peterson is a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife Stacy, and his third wife died under mysterious circumstances.

UPDATE: 3/5/09

There has been some confusion about who originally challenged whom to this fight.
In an attempt to clear this up I emailed Sherman at Q101, who replied and explained that the clips posted on the Q101 site are incomplete. They omit the part of the interview where Mike challenged Drew, right before Drew called in to the station.

He included an MP3 of the missing part.

TRANSCRIPT:

SHERMAN: If Drew was listening right now, what would you want to say to him?

MIKE: I just think, I think that he’s a scumbag. That’s it, and I think that… He aggravates me so much on this with the fact that he has screwed up her head so bad. I mean, I’m not jealous of the fact that I got broken up with because everybody gets broken up with. People are married for thirty years who get broken up with. Who cares? My biggest thing is I’m just so, so aggravated at what he’s doing to her that I just, seriously, I would love to get in a boxing ring with this guy. I would love just to throw on gloves and just go like four of six rounds with him.

SHERMAN: That much, huh?

MIKE: Yes. That’s what I want to do. Yeah. I would love to do that.

Drew Peterson Challenges Fiancée’s Ex to an Ultimate Fight Match.

"Hands and feet!"

"Hands and feet!"

This morning, Drew Peterson called in to the Sherman and Tingle show at Q101 while they were talking to Mike Siuda, the ex-boyfriend of Chrissy Raines. My guess was that Drew must already have a venue booked for the Geraldo fight and he’s afraid of losing his deposit, but Sherman assures me that Drew’s call was a complete surprise and that Q101 is now working on getting a venue for this latest stunt. *sigh*

The one thing about their conversation that interested me (besides Chrissy constantly yelling in the background) was Mike’s accusation that Drew had illegally gotten information on his legal standing. More interesting was Drew’s admission that this is true: “You’ve been checked on, brother.”

As usual, I transcribed the crap out of it. I can’t tell a Sherman from a Tingle so I did my best…
*****************************

S or T: We have in the studio right now, Mike, who is the ex-boyfriend of Christina Raines who is now Drew Peterson’s fiancée.
S or T: Actually we have Drew Peterson on the line right now. This is truly Drew Peterson?

PETERSON: This is truly Drew Peterson:

S or T: Alright, let’s have a conversation. Drew Peterson, we appreciate you calling up. Do you have anything you’d like to reply back to Mike that’s in the studio right now?

PETERSON: Well obviously she didn’t leave him to be with me. She left him because she didn’t want to be with him anymore and she had to put up with him stalking her. She had to put up with coming home drunk and one night he threw her and the two kids out in the cold at 2 o’clock in the morning.

SIUDA: Is that really how it happened? Is it?

PETERSON: The constant fighting. Coming home and cutting up her clothes, the stalking and pulling her out of bars…

S or T: Did you ever cut up any clothes?

SIUDA: Never. Never ever. Never

S or T: Did you stalk at all?

SIUDA: No. there was never any stalking. There was never any anything. You know you were the problem and why she left. You know exactly.

PETERSON: Do you have an order of protection on you from a prior girlfriend?

SIUDA: I have no idea. No I don’t, actually.

PETERSON: I think you do!

SIUDA: How would you know that?

PETERSON: Because you’ve been checked on, brother.

SIUDA: Oh, I know. You looked into my private records because you’re a scumbag.

Reality show for Peterson and fiancee?
Drew reportedly in talks
February 13, 2009

By JOE HOSEY jhosey@scn1.com
BOLINGBROOK — It’s too bad they already have a reality show called “Survivor,” because there might not be a better title for a series starring Drew Peterson and the woman hoping to become his fifth wife, considering what became of spouses three and four.

A source said the recently engaged Peterson; his attorney Joel Brodsky; and neighbor-cum-flunky Steve Carcerano all are wheeling and dealing their way into a reality show with the help of a Las Vegas-based representative.

Peterson repeatedly refused to comment on whether he had a reality show in the works, but did say Friday during a “Today” show appearance with fiancee Christina Raines that he has interest in pursuing such a venture.
