We’ve noticed that people have a lot of questions regarding reports of a brawl at Tailgaters over the weekend. After tracking down a few leads it’s safe to say that we still are not sure exactly what happened and that is probably why many news organizations chose to not run the story. The reports vary widely; everything from Drew Peterson threw the man through the window to Drew Peterson wasn’t even there that night. Neither of those are correct.
Here’s a run down of the facts we do know:
1) Drew Peterson was there that night, but it is unclear until how late.
2) The bar closed at 2 a.m. Saturday and the altercation started outside the bar after closing time. Two men – a regular and a former employee – were arguing when the regular pushed the former employee into the window. The glass shattered and did injure him. We do not know how bad his injuries were.
3) Neither man mentioned above is Drew Peterson.
4) Drew Peterson is a regular customer of Tailgaters. He has been in the bar at least 4 or 5 times since Stacy disappeared, according to bar owner Bob Zalewski.
From what he was able to gather from witnesses and police, Zalewski said the altercation appeared to have started when the regular attempted to calm down two women who were in a “heated discussion.” The other man, a boyfriend of one of the women, misinterpreted the man’s attempt to help as aggression and went to defend the women.
Zalewski said neither of the men had ever caused problems in the bar and believes it all to be a misunderstanding.
Drew Peterson has been a familiar face at Tailgaters for several years and used to visit the bar with his wife Stacy, Zalewski said. Stacy Peterson had her first drink on her 21st birthday at the bar, he said.
Since Stacy’s disappearance, Peterson occasionally visits the bar and keeps to himself, Zalewski said. However, other patrons have raised concerns – and not always quietly – about his presence at the bar.
That’s what we’ve been able to gather so far, but we’re still checking on a few things. We’ll let you know if we find out anything more.
