Peterson turns himself in on gun charge

Drew Peterson, who turned himself in to police Wednesday afternoon, is scheduled to be released from the Will County Jail at 2:45 p.m.

Drew’s son, Stephen, wrote a check for the $7,500 and his lawyer, Joel Brodsky, posted the bail money Wednesday.

“I really believe that for some reason that I can’t comprehend the Illinois State Police seem to have an obsession with these guns and with getting them. They’re willing to go to any lengths to prevent that.

The next scheduled court date in the guns’ case is scheduled for Thursday. Brodsky said he expects Stephen Peterson will get his father’s guns during the court case.

Brodsky believes this is a tactic by the Illinois State Police to harass his client.

“Any inconvience (the Illinois State Police) can cause (Peterson) the better,” Brodsky said. “They may believe it’s a tactic to shake him up, but it’s certaintly not going to work.”

  1. I saw on the noon channel 32 news that an arrest warrant had been issued for Drew Peterson. My first thought was it is about time that the investigation yielded some sort of fruit. Then as I listened and watched I discovered that the arrest warrant was for possession of an illegal firearm. Apparently the barrel length of one of the weapons siezed by the Illinois State Police is 3/8 inch shorter than the minimum 16 inches required by Illinois State law. I looked into the weapon that is the center of all of this. It is a Colt AR-15 Sporter. Every place I have looked, this model of the firearm does have a 16 inch barrel so I am wondering what all of the fuss is all about. The only thing I can think of that might have caused all of this is that Drew acquired this weapon when he was an active member of the Bolingbrook SWAT team. Maybe he had access to a modified version of this weapon that has a shorter barrelwhen he was a SWAT team member. As a civilian I am not able to find any information about the AR-15 Sporter thatg indicates there is a shorter barrel length available.

  2. There has to be “more behind the scenes”. Otherwise, why didn’t they arrest him on the weapons charges way back when they first confiscated them? I think there is a purpose and a reason behind it. My first thought was so that while arrested the state could take the children as wards of the court. However, only an opinion. Could be wrong. Maybe it has something to do with stalling the return of the guns to his son? Whatever it is …there is a reason behind it as they could have done this long ago. Ya know?
