Published : Friday, 26 Jun 2009, 9:18 PM CDT34 year-old Jeffrey Pachter is a warehouse worker who got to know Drew Peterson in the mid-90s when they both worked for a cable wiring company, that according to Pachter’s wife.
Peterson at the time was moonlighting from his job as a Bolingbrook Police Sergeant.
Pachter, who was 18, had been charged with criminal sexual abuse for his relationship with a girl who court records indicate was 13-to-16 years old.
Peterson reportedly helped Pachter get court records that later resulted in Pachter pleading guilty to a lesser charge.
When prosecutors arrested Peterson and charged him with the 2004 murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, they alleged he tried to hire a hit man in late 2003, while divorcing Savio.
Pachter’s wife, whom Jeffrey is now divorcing, said he never mentioned it at the time.
But late last year when Pachter tried to reconcile with his family, he told her all about it.
According to Mrs. Pachter, Jeff said Peterson called one night and offered him $25-thousand to kill Savio but he said no and no money was ever paid.
He only told one person at the time. That friend, she says, kept the secret until Peterson’s fourth wife Stacy disappeared, and then he went to police.
Pachter is vacation with his parents in Wisconsin.
We reached his mother by phone and she said they had no comment.

Public records show that Jeffrey Pachter was charged with a crime, paid his dues, and that the case was closed in 1995.

It has been stated by Ric Mims that he AND DP worked part-time at Americable. Mims also stated that this is where DP purchased the blue cable boxes with silver handles he had in his garage.

But there is something that cut my curiosity when DP went away for 3 days after STACY’S disappearance, he was camouflaged, and had a terrible sunburn, as I could see. My thought, at that time, when reading the news, he was exposed to chemicals. Hope evidence do talk on this.

If I were Jeffrey Pachter, I’d be on vacation too and probably until the day I were called up as a witness in Drews trial and not a day earlier (!!)
I guess Drews house of cards is going to crumble very soon as there would be many more people that have come forward since the States Attorneys office re-opened Kathleen case and Stacys disappearance was also taken seriously !!
805 potential witnesses is a lot of witness power and I bet the farm on it, they would all have told similar stories to make this case (and Stacys) into a powerful collage of events with enormous prosecution power for the State !
For Drew to be telling the truth, at least 805 people would not only have to be lying but to be lying independently with stories to match !!

I personally don’t believe this is the hitman that is the State’s witness. For one thing, this story is soooooooo National Enquirer-ish. He’s divorcing, so now the soon to be ex is just a wealth of information, and claims Jeffery told a friend, who told the police, but three years later. In the meantime, he told her about it last year, but she waits until now to discuss it with Fox News? Oh, okay. If this is true, I’m not feeling all that excited about this witness. Maybe, I can believe, it’s possible he’s one of a couple of people that Peterson might have asked to do this horrible deed, since, if he was turned down at first, he would have continued to pursue something until he got it done.
Maybe this is the guy, but I don’t believe it. This story sucks.

you are right it is a story by an anonymous writer, so who knows where it originated from.
we may have to just be patient and wait for the trial to begin as at least the 805 potential witnesses rounded up by the Prosecution would have been thoroughly screened and their stories more than verified by investigators in comparison to an anonymous newspaper story that could go either way.
having said that I also think Drews arrogance and eagerness to get his wife bumped off would have diminished any sense of caution, so who knows how many people he approached to use in some form or another to do his dirty work for him !
This hitman information is just another reason for me to wonder why some go on to say that Peterson is/was a smart guy, and he wouldn’t be so stupid as to make any mistakes, or so smart that he thought of everything to cover his tracks in Kathleen’s death and Stacy’s disappearance/death.
Nope, nada, no way Jose. If he involved anyone in either Kathleen’s or Stacy’s fates, he lacks significant brains to carry out the perfect crime. Because, when you bring someone else into the equation, you cannot factor in the unknown — what that individual will say or do about the circumstances, in the future. Unless, of course, you zero out that unknown factor by, saying, wiping them off the face of the earth. Say, like he did with Stacy, who he involved in the death of Kathleen by convincing and, I believe, intimidating her into becoming his perfect alibi.
Perfect? alibi? Big mistake.
I’m wondering, if this is not just “a” would-be hitman but “the” would-be hitman, was this a leak by the defense? They were specifically barred from leaking witness names so I tend to think not, but it’s still a fascinating thought.
How will Team Drew restrain themselves from dragging this man’s name through the mud? It’ll be a herculean effort!

The video does mention that Fox contacted both prosecution and defense but got no comment because of the gag order.

Bucket, yes. I wonder if there was a period of time in which the two were not in contact and then – boom – suddenly Drew calls and asks if he will do the hit, or were they friends who stayed in touch between 1993 and 2003?
If they were out of touch, then the record of the phone call to Pachter would be pretty interesting.
It’s interesting that he offered 25K for the hit. Isn’t that how much Drew said Stacy took off with. I always thought there maybe some small part of the truth in everything drew says.
Some sources have said that Drew approached a fellow narcotics officer with the idea of a hit. Was the source mistaken…or did they hear only of “a co-worker” and assume it had to be a fellow officer?
If Drew “helped” this Jeffrey Pachter by getting Court records for him, there’s no way knowing what else he “helped” him with over time, thereby conveniently creating a situation where Jeffrey owed Drew a favor or two as that is how these arrangements generally work !
It all depends how much each favor is worth in the beholders eye (!!)

JAH, it doesn’t say that those court records were gotten illegally.
That’s right facs, Drew was just being helpful and a good Samaritan.
While I give him kudos for not taking Drew up on his offer, I can’t help but wish he’d actually told someone about the offer when it happened.
No, I’ve never been in the situation where someone asked me to kill their spouse, and I don’t know anyone who I “always thought murdered their previous wife” but I hope if I am, I do the right thing at the right time.
I guess I could hope that the friend he told is a cop with a stellar background, who came forward when Stacy went missing.
Oh crap. If he had a stellar background, he would have told someone back then too. So I have to hope for that too.
I will say I’m beginning to see how they ended up with 805 witnesses.
All I can say is I’m happy to see him on the list of witnesses.
It’s classic Drew. He doesn’t help anyone without expecting a return. In this case looks like he expected a bit too much from at least one person when he asked them to kill his ex-wife. I’m really really hoping he approached more than one person and that they are both going to testify. That is some pretty compelling circumstantial evidence.

Drew was probably the right one to go to if you have statutory rape grief…DP’s probably made a careful study of any dodges available. Court records? Could he mean a precedent for copping to the lesser plea? (makes him sound smart..maybe not 😉 )

What did Drew have on him? Drew was the one who pulled the records that helped him.
Drew either helped him legally or didn’t. And if he didn’t, then it was Jeff who had the goods on Drew.
I was just thinking that the “goods” consist of being able to call him a sex offender and knowing the true details, plus the obligation to reciprocate. Those are both good levers.

You’re right it’s probably not enough to agree to kill, as he did turn down, but enough obligation to keep his mouth shut. That, plus I’d be scared of an armed copper who drives around all night also thought it was OK to murder his wife.
So he should be afraid of Drew in general but not afraid of turning him down? I don’t think it works both ways. I wouldn’t buy it anyway. I was too afraid to go to the police and say he asked me to kill his ex-wife, but I wasn’t too scared to turn him down.
But, what’s done is done. What we have to deal with is that he turned Drew down, whatever the reasons.
I couldn’t find JP in the SO registry so I don’t guess he had to register. I think Yelton Cales was charged with the same offense, which is why I wondered.

A man approaching 50, a few years back, sets his hooks into a 16 or 17 year old hotel clerk, impregnates her, and he’s a model citizen, according to his lawyer, Brodsky. A stellar man who should have his bond reduced for all the years of public service and good will he’s thrown around.
A man’s soon to be ex-wife chats it up with Fox News that he told her late last year Peterson solicited him for murder, but he kept quiet, and now she feels it’s her civic duty to expose him to the public for it so he can be vilified in the press. Or, maybe I’m missing something here. Why, exactly, is she going public with this now?
Somehow, I fail to see the comparison of an 18 year old teen, getting caught doing whatever it is he’s supposed to be accused of doing, with that of a filthy pig who can’t keep his hands off of any one that gives him a second look under the age of 23.
That may also be the reason there are now so many potential witnesses.
A lot of people had to keep quiet for a long time as it wasn’t safe to report anything Drew had been up to !

Yes, I agree with that rescue, but I bet there are a lot of people wanting to bring their stories to newspapers for whatever reason, however if there is a Court ordered gag, the papers should have the decency to not indulge in publishing anything during that time either.

The whole story reminds me the one with Tom Morphey and the photoes they got from his wife… Additionally, I cannot stop thinking about the documents stolen from the ISP car. I cannot imagine such a controlling guy as Drew not knowing what they have against him.:)
I think this information was in those documents but Brodsky could not reveal it, because it would rise some questions … Now, when they have Patcher as the formal witness what might be a better way than to contact a wife he is divorcing with? Maybe she also have some pictures from ‘last year’? Could not find? But he was seducing a minor…can he be a reliable witness?;)
And of course he can blame the other side for revealing the info. That was Savio’s family and the press who got the info first because the stolen documents were passedto them not him!

This story, coming from the man’s ex-wife, is a little hard to take. If he is the man who Peterson hired, shame on her for opening her mouth and bringing unwanted attention on him.
Justice Cafe is a place to come and read the latest news, and that’s what this post was meant to be, but we are not comfortable promoting this story and causing this man any more attention, based on what his wife, involved in a pending divorce, relayed to Fox News. As a matter of fact, he’s the third mention of a possible hit man. An undercover narcotics officer who once worked with Drew is the first, Derek Armstrong went anywhere he could get his mug in front of a camera and revealed his brainiac notion that it had to be Bindy Rock, and now this man’s wife is outting him as the one.

Yeah, I can see why it looks like defense stole the file from ISP…they would “return” it by sending to the Savios to make it look like it was their side or their sympathizer who took it. In any case, those docs stolen from the car looks very hinky indeed.
The good news is that I’m sure Drew’s done for, and this story isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It still looks as though no other outlet has picked it up, and even if it were, it’s not going to save him. 🙂

Something convinced a judge to approve a $20,000,000 bond, and something continued to convince a couple more to keep it that way. Yes, I agree, he’s done for and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Maybe there will be a few more hit man rumors to come before this trial goes forward. Hell, maybe there were a few who had to turn the pig down before the poor woman was eventually murdered. Who knows.

I’m very uncomfortable with the fact that this potential witness did not come forward himself, but that his estranged wife (who did not reveal her own name) made his name and past public and provided photos as well.
If she’s ready to put this man in front of the public eye, it’s pretty low that she’s keeping her own identity confidential.
We have no idea what Jeffrey Pachter thinks or has to say about what has been printed about him.
I really, really don’t want our blog to be the place where witnesses start being picked apart and harrassed. That is exactly why the court gagged Joel Brodsky and the very last thing I want is for us to be doing Joel’s job for him.
We want to collect news and info here and to discuss the cases–as Rescuse explained–but never at the cost of the prosecution’s witnesses.

When Peterson appeared for court the other day, on Fox’s website, they had a video clip of the van pulling up, stopping, and, with high anticipation, I watched to see what the creep looks like after two months of confinement. Lo and behold, they cut away and not a shot of him. Oh, well, morbid curiosity will have to wait.
